Cannot save game manually - help please :)

So I've officially played repetitive quests for over 4 hours now because I only play for 1-2 hours and then manually save, turn off my xbox360 and then start again another night. I keep on starting over and over and over at the same point regardless of how many times or where I manually save. I've just researched every thread with the word 'save' in it and need some clarification please.

 

As far as I understand, this game will NOT save at any time and point, but only at checkpoints? If this is correct, how do I know when and where a 'checkpoint' is!?!? Im towards the begining of the game where I get kidnapped by elves and taken to the elves fortress while im searching for 'recruit the goths' quest. I've tackled a number of quests and then keep manually saving hoping it will stick but I cannot seem to play long enough to reach a checkpoint? Im going on my 4th elves kidnapping now and its getting to the point where I no longer wish to play this game. Sad, because i love the game and im a HUGE south park fan but this is beyond annoying repeating the same damn challenges over and over and over.

 

Frustrated but looking for answers to help overcome the obstacles.

In the end the manual save system is indeed pointless / broken because at those checkpoints it will automatically save. The easiest way to trigger such event is by travelling with Timmy. After you traveled to some place you will notice the audio recorder symbol in the corner showing you it saves.

I have traveled through timmy's flags each and every single time and yet when I save/shutdown and then boot up for another day of play it does not start me off where I was. It seems im stuck on level 6 and no matter how many times I save or travel it does not allow me to save.

 

How can a game of this size have such a large problem and developers are not fixing it?

Actually, I take that back. I am pathetic. I just had to hit load save instead of 'continue'.
