Well, if you went with "instead of fixing it I will leave the situation for multiple ingame weeks" you should expect things to have deterioted.

It's what I expected in DA:O, so I definitely didn't pick the mages option when I hadn't visited it yet. Common sense prevented me from picking it.

 

So, if you are not using your common sense and pick stupid options, I don't agree it shouldn't go unpunished. As long as the game remains finishable.
