Wrath of Dagon Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 If you're implying that's something I do, just presenting a number is not enough. What you have to show are the measurement methods and assumptions used to derive that number, so they can be examined critically. A good example of this are the ESA numbers of gamer demographics, which ESA uses to make all kinds of political points favorable to them. What they fail to mention is they consider someone a gamer if he played one free puzzle game within say the last year (or something like that). People then proceed to make all kinds of conclusions using those numbers about gamers who regularly buy $60 games. "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." alanschu Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) I'm implying that my roommate does that, a LOT. But since you're mentioning things, at least you demonstrated that the ESA numbers are questionable because of their methodology. My roommate goes "I don't believe the numbers because I feel the world is actually different." "Based on what" "The logical constructions I have made in my head." Okay then Even then, I wonder how much of it is the ESA's fault. EG: http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=1174 Edited October 16, 2009 by alanschu
