Calax Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 After reformatting my hard drive, reinstalling drivers for my grafix, sound, motherboard, and other tools, I went to try to install my drivers for my WAN card. And i ran into the problem of the damn things drivers won't work. I've tried four different packages from linksys's website (I've got a WMP54GS) and all they do is install the freaking wan network monitor, not the actual drivers. Two things I'm gonna try when I get the tools to, is 1 hook up the thing via land line to my network and let windows try to find the drivers and 2 yank the old ass card from the system I'm using to write this (which is from '03/'04 and isn't nearly as powerful as the other one) and hope to hell I can find the drivers for this sucker anyone have any other ideas? I've been downloading the drivers onto a flash drive and using that to get between computers. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
samm Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 (edited) My lan card is recognized by windows or installed with some standard-driver, so I don't know much about this. I'm sure you tried this download here: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c...d#versiondetail already. It says in the version notes that some driver is included. If the setup program installs only the monitor, install the driver for your hardware manually, and look if you can find a driver on your harddrive once you've installed the file I linked above. It could be in the directory for the monitor, or in the temp-folder, or on C:/linksys, for example... Edited December 11, 2008 by samm Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority
Calax Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 there were files in a driver folder but I'm not the comp sci major my brother is unfortunatly so I'm worried about breaking somthing if I don't have step by step instructions. samm Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Computer science doesn't make you any better or worse with windows... Anyway, if you're on XP: Rightclick on your "My Computer"--> "Properties" --> "Hardware" --> "Device manager". You should see a yellow exclamation sign indicating your card isn't installed properly. Right click on it --> Properties. Switch to the "driver" tab. Click on "Update". Select "manually", then "from a list" or something along these lines. If your card is not in the list, click on the "Disk"-Button, then search for that driver-folder you mentionned. That could do the trick [edit] If you're on Vista, it could work similarly, but I'm not sure. Edited December 12, 2008 by samm Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority

Calax Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Figured out what was wrong, I think. My OLD computer (that I didn't format) has a WMP54GS wireless land card, my new one has a WMP54G (I'm guessing Version 1.0 considering that the version isn't specified on the card) fraking linksys disk that I've got. Guess it wasn't 1.0 I'm dling every version of the friggen drivers and am going to put em on my disk and hope it picks which one is correct. of course I think it barely knows what it's dealing with it's just listed as a yellow questionmark with "network controller" after it. turns out I have version 4.0 good luck finding that on the device Got it working and am now reinstalling applications that I like. Calax Posted December 14, 2008 Author Posted December 14, 2008 how embarassing, my old card from my factory built system (my custom rocks) had a faster lan card in it than the one I was using (I've since swapped em out) so now I am using a WMP54GS Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition!
