I just received my new laptop and it does not come with a pre-installed OS, so I am trying to install Windows XP on it. The setup process, however, tells me that it cannot find any active HDD on the computer...

Any advice as to what I can do? Can I 'activate' it somehow or something?

Youve already solved the problem, but many winXP install discs doesnt come with SATA drivers and so cant be used to install win on a sata drive without supplying external drivers on a floppy, usb-stick or by slipstreaming the drives onto the cd.
