March 12, 200817 yr I think the old contest was not successful for several reasons: 1) Prizes: The prizes were things that the enthusiasts likely to participate in contests already have - indeed they have to have them in order to participate in the first place. 2) Examination Period: The contest was done during the crunch period for many students (myself included). 3) Open results: Although I liked seeing what people came up with immediately, it was discouraging to participation, since the set of hidden situations was limited and the first participants more or less covered it. On the other hand, it was a good idea to have a contest, where everybody can participate in, not just the modders.
