CTD after character creation on Vista laptop

Featured Replies

I had read somewhere that some games wouldn't work on Vista unless you first installed them on XP, so when I moved abroad I copied my KOTOR2 folder from my old WINXP PC onto a DVD and have now put it on my new Vista laptop. The game starts as normal, but when I try to start a new game it displays the opening cinematic as usual and then crashes.

Now, the odd thing is that I can load my saved games as usual, except that they load, go to the game with everything looking fine and then crash when I try to use the keyboard to move. I can access my inventory and character screens just fine, moving seems to crash it.

My laptop has dual core 1.73Ghz processors, 2038MB RAM, 32-bit Vista and a crappy onboard Mobile Intel 945 with 224MB memory video card.

I don't have the original CD for the game with me here, so reinstalling is not an option, and I'd prefer not having to travel back to my mom's house 1500 miles away to get it.

Can anyone help?

First wherever you read that is VERY mistaken none of my games have ever had to be installed that way. I will try to help just in case it is not related to your install method.

1. See if you have the latest Intel graphic driver's. Here

2. Update your Directx files. Here

3. Since I think you are using a no CD crack (how else would you not have original CD and would be able to start the game) try a different one.

The only other thing is a reinstall from the original CD.

Thanks for your reply. It didn't work, unfortunately. Guess I'll have to pick up my copy of KOTOR2 next time I visit my mother.
