October 26, 200718 yr My USB gamepad isn't detected by Windows since I got my new mobo. This seems to be a result of the combination of this specific gamepad with this specific mobo, as the gamepad works on all other computers, and all other USB devices work with this mobo. Seeing as this only seems to be a plug and play issue, I was wondering if I could do a manual installation of the device using the driver files (the inf file and whatnot) in the installation disc. I'm guessing this should be possible but, so far, my l33t googling skills have failed to find the needed information. October 30, 200718 yr Author It's an XFX one. It's called Xgear something. Quite good, actually. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. October 30, 200718 yr Glad to hear that it's good (or at least as good as a non-working gamepad can get). Now if you could give me the exact model number that would be just smashing.

October 30, 200718 yr That is a nice one. Now Pid, do you see a green light on the controller's LEDs when you plug it into the USB port?
October 30, 200718 yr Author Yes, I do. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
October 30, 200718 yr Excellent. Now are you able to configure your buttons via XFX Game Controller software?
October 30, 200718 yr Author No, the drivers and the software won't install without first detecting the gamepad... That's my whole problem, if I could configure the buttons, I could use the gamepad. October 30, 200718 yr 1) Are you trying to install it with the software packaged on the CD? 2) What does the software say when you try and install it?
October 30, 200718 yr Author 1)Yes, although I've also tried it with the software from XFX's site (which is exactly the same). 2)That it can't detect the device and tells me to connect it. The gamepad comes up as an unknown device in the device manager, by the way. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. October 30, 200718 yr Okay, here's the problem. The software you have doesn't possess a Vista driver for the gamepad. Unfortunately, their latest drivers released online for your model only support Windows 2K, MCE, & XP: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/support/search...roductCode.jspa In other words, with a lack of a current Vista driver you're kinda screwed. I'm sure eventually they'll release one though...

October 30, 200718 yr Ahh, then why didn't you say so? Okay, so you're not having any luck with this? ftp://ftp.xfxsupport.com/public/driver/1.0_XP_9x_xgear.zip None whatsoever, not even a smidgum?
October 30, 200718 yr Author Nope. those are the exact same files that come on the CD. And any way the real problem isn't those drivers, it is that windows fails to detect the gamepad. If it did, it would install its own standard gamepad drivers as soon as I connected the gamepad, even without attempting to install XFX's driver. October 30, 200718 yr Got ya. Have you tried plugging it in to a different USB port on the motherboard?

February 18, 200817 yr Nope. those are the exact same files that come on the CD. And any way the real problem isn't those drivers, it is that windows fails to detect the gamepad. If it did, it would install its own standard gamepad drivers as soon as I connected the gamepad, even without attempting to install XFX's driver. I have the same exact problem here. I think it has something to do with the gamepad not supporting USB 2.0 ports. I guess installing a new USB PCI works. Was it USB 1.1? Is there a non-hardware way of fixing it? I don't have a USB PCI card here, but I *do* have a spare hub! And, hey, it worked too! Yeah! Thanks for the suggestion.
