However, I require some upgrading, mostly in the RAM department. My computer's graphics card will function for the game (not by a lot extra, but it does meet the recommended criteria by just a hair, not the minimum mind you, the recommended)but I don't have the recommended RAM. So, I am investigating upgrades to either double current ram, (256) or to just get an entirely new 512 card. Now, I don't plan on spending a LOT lot of money on this so don't try to sell me on more than the reccomended requirements. What I'm asking for is the info to discover what kinds of RAM sticks I can buy for this system, and best site/store/catalog to get them from. Help in this is very much appreciated.

I like http://www.crucial.com/ they have descent prices plus they have a feature in the lower right hand corner of the screen called "Scan my System." If you use this feature it will tell you how much, and what kind, of RAM your computer can take. It will also make recommendations.

I'll second the recommendation of Crucial. I buy most of my RAM from them and never had a problem.

Kingston is another good place to buy RAM.

I also think you are doing the right thing and not going for the 'high performance' RAM that seems to be the in thing these days. I've tried it and found that it didn't give me any practical advantage over the standard & reliable RAM.

Funny. I just had a friend recommend that this morning, and when I went to their site I got this from the scan

"Our scan was unable to determine exactly what type of Intel system you are using."

I read this off the label on the RAM card itself, maybe you'll be albe to tell me for sure if I am understanding it right:

DDR400 256MB 2.5v UI

Now, as I understand it, that means I have 256MD DDR SDRAM running 2.5 volts. the 400 and the UI I don't get. And if I get any DDR SDRAM will it "plug and play"?

I don't know about UI but 400 is the speed it is at. so it is ddr400 or pc3200 ram. yes, all you have to do is plug it in and it will work immediately.

SSgtSniper,

You do indeed have DDR400 Ram, running at a 2.5 V capacity. While Crucial is a great place to buy Memory, it can be a little expensive. May I recommend this:

I have this RAM myself, and it's GREAT preformance, plus it's only $39, or so. Just check out all the reviews on it. I recommend NewEgg wholeheartedly, I have been a very happy customer with them for quite some time.

You can even buy a GIG of RAM for $78...very good deals.

Good luck in your process.

Sweet, I was thinking of buying that exact same pair and splitting them up and putting one each in two different computers I have here at the house. (The other one being the wife's.....) I'm gonna investigate around newegg a bit more, but thanks for the info.
