Have you guys heard of GemRB? I've just come across this project which could be the ultimate Infinity Engine mod. Essentially it's an open source engine like ScummVM for the IE games, and the potential is pretty great if it makes it into beta. The plan AFAIK is that you can apply any engine to any game, so you could be playing PST or BG with 3E rules. Everything will be highly customisable for modders like character animations and party creation screens. Check out the forums at Gibberlings Three if you're interested.
