GROUNDED 2 CONCEPT: The Sandpit Update & Antlion Mechanics

Featured Replies

With the "Future Plans" roadmap hinting at new areas to come , the game desperately needs a dedicated sandy biome and tools to navigate its intense vertical scale. Here is a community pitch for bringing back Antlions with entirely new mechanics!

New Biome & Hazards: The Sandpit & Slide House

  • The Biome: A massive playground sandpit featuring a multi-level wooden playhouse and plastic slide structure.

  • The Hazard: Loose, steep sand shifting underfoot, creating natural quicksand traps that drag players into hidden subterranean dens.

New Weapon / Exploration Tool: Antlion Climbing Sickles

  • The Concept: Curved, lightweight dual sickles crafted from Antlion pincers and mandibles.

  • The Trait (Wall Climbing): Allows players to latch onto vertical surfaces (wooden playhouse stilts, smooth plastic slides, or rock walls) and scale them manually.

  • The Balance: Climbing drains the player's stamina meter over time, requiring strategic routing, stamina upgrades, and ledge management.

  • Combat Style: High-speed, agile dual-wielding weapons with a high critical-hit chance, perfect for fighting off fast aerial bugs on the upper tiers of the jungle gym

New Vehicle & Mount Mechanics: Antlion Traversal

  • Antlion Buggy Mutation: A vehicle customization tier allowing the buggy to half-submerge into loose sand. This allows it to glide quickly over sand dunes, bypass quicksand traps, and hide from surface hazards.

  • Antlion Taming & Riding: A late-game mechanic where players can tame a rare, distinctively textured "Sand-Camouflage" Antlion. Riding it grants full immunity to the sand terrain penalties and unlocks access to ungrounded, unstable cave networks otherwise unreachable on foot.
