elfstick Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Hi all, Avowed won't launch for me. The launch art pops up for a bit and then just goes away without the game launching. No error code or anything. My specs are below but should run this game pretty easily: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 14700F NVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX(TM) 4070 SUPER 12GB GDDR6X 32 GB RAM I updated my Nvidia drivers and have tried reinstalling the file to no effect. I've also tried "-dx11" and "-dx12" in launch options on steam. Any other ideas? 1
MShepp Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Won't let me even install so, consider yourself lucky? I'm certain, as with just about all initial launches, there is ...stuff to fix. Did anyone beta? 1
VikingDreams Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Having the same issue but on the xbox store i do have the premium upgrade I've tried every workaround that i know, like repairing the game and the xbox store, uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing will work, it just pops the launch art for a few seconds and goes away and nothing happens 1

I've tried everything support has asked so far and no luck. 1
kevin furtado Posted February 14 Posted February 14 My game wont launch either with a 9800x3d 32 gb of ram 6200mhz and a rtx 4080, on steam. It really sad to encounter this issue when paying that much just to play early without any upcoming DLC in the deal. Hope to have a reply from you guys, cause right now it smell like a refund. Furthermore the game act like it is running after the long script GamingRepair.PROGRAM ended but still no image.
Stoke Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Hello - I have the same issue. I tried it on the Xbox PC app and it won't launch. Basically, it opens the pop-art, like if starting to load, then it closes without any visible error on screen. This happens every single time without exceptions and fails at the same point. I then went to Steam, bought the premium edition and tested this without luck - same issue. I've tried repairing, re-installing, restarting xbox services, clean boot, installation in different SSD, updated GPU drivers, updated BIOS, updated Windows, tried on Steam, disabled firewalls, running as administrator, etc. No other ideas at the moment, other games run fine on both Xbox PC app and Steam. Specs: CPU: Core i9-12900K GPU: RTX 4080 Super DRAM: 32GB OS: Windows 11 (ver 23H2)

Hokkaido_Emi Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I first tried to launch the game via battle.net after installing it there. I decided to try and launch it in compatibility mode, not launching it in full screen etc, it worked initially I was able to play the game to where your just about getting on the boat with the prisoner in the beginning. It then hung there on loading. Which was very frustrating. I am playing on PC, with 32GB 6800mhz ram, Intel 13700k and RTX4090 graphics card. For some reason It would get stuck on the shading screen never getting past it, it would get close but then just hang. I decided to uninstall it and install it on the xbox app for pc. However after it downloaded , the pop art appears, screen goes black and I get the shader warning. This is what pops up it did it initially on the battle.net install, but as Ive explained above, I was able use compatibility mode. I tried it again after installing via battle.net again and it wont work, same issue as on the xbox app for pc, nothing seems to work. For those of us in Early Access we have paid a lot of money for this game, and those 5 days early access are meaningless unless you get a patch out so we can you know, actually play the game we have bought. Ignoring this issue until launch day on Feb 18 is just utterly wrong. We bought the game to play the early access and when we cant and the developer seems to be completely ignoring us, it doesnt bode well for the future. Please, please fix the game launching, and also the controller x and y axis, its awful
Asarhian Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I am also having this same problem except that it appeared to work when I used -dx11 in loading options...and then it didn't...after character creation when loading after attack at sea, got error message of ue-alabama failure? Would really like to play in early access since I played an extra $20 to do so...more fool me, I guess.
Stoke Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Which version of Windows are you all playing on? I'm on Windows 11 23H2. Haven't been able to test Windows 11 24H2 and would like to rule it out if any of you are having the issue on that version.
Stoke Posted Monday at 12:33 AM Posted Monday at 12:33 AM For everyone having this issue. The solution is to run the latest version of Windows 11. At the time of this post, that's 24H2. For some reason there's an issue with Avowed and Windows 11 version 23H2. Good luck!
elfstick Posted Monday at 03:23 PM Author Posted Monday at 03:23 PM I finally figured out a fix that worked for me if anyone is still monitoring this: I don’t know why but launching the game through the Nvidia App (not the GeForce Experience, the newer app) got the game to launch after the splash screen. It now will open through steam like normal. 1
Hokkaido_Emi Posted Monday at 03:43 PM Posted Monday at 03:43 PM I have the lastest version of windows, and the game won't get passed the shader caching issue. I have tried -dx11 , it gets to character creation then fatal errors, because it needs dx12 to play. Some people are claiming that they can load up the game on their hand held's, play on linux in dx11, then transfer the save over to their pc and continue playing in dx11, which I don't think they can be, if the minimum requirement is dx12. I will redownload the game and this time install on my main ssd, but I can't seem to find any save files at all anywhere..tried through %appdate%local etc but all I find is alabama/ saved folder where there is no saves. I will report back on if it's working on the main drive, I don't expect it will, because this needs patching so we can get passed the graphics caching on intel latest gen processors with rtx40 cards. 1

Hokkaido_Emi Posted Wednesday at 02:34 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:34 AM 2 hours ago, fischer.timothyn said: I am on 24H2 Windows 11 and am having the same issue. There is a problem with any version of windows 10 and any version of windows 11, especially if you have a 13th or 14th Gen Intel Processor. There is something with these processors and that stupid graphics shader at the beginning. I have played all of about 30 minutes of the early access, because I just can't get passed the Graphics Shader. I wish they would remove it, it's causing a huge number of people to not be able to play this game. We bought early access to play it, not sit twiddling thumbs waiting for the dev to issue a patch to fix this nonsense. I mean today is January 18 launch day and no emergency patch, and they've known about this issue since probably before even early access, or at least since it, and there is nothing from them. It's honestly disgraceful. I paid a lot of money for this game, and it's basically useless to me because I can't play it. I wouldn't mind if I was playing on an oldish rig or something, but I am not. Unless they come up with a patch, I will have to pretend I didn't buy this game and never buy another Obsidian game ever again. I don't have money to burn. I have tried everything, from all sorts of tweaks that are supposed to work allegedly and they don't, so many of us stuck at the shader screen. Can't use dx11, because it just causes a crash once you get past the character creation screen (removing dx11 in character creation screen because it will not run without dx12.) I just don't hold any hope they will get a patch out, if they haven't by now I don't seem them fixing this problem at all.

I have downloaded 5 times for xbox for pc, can't get past the shader screen, downloaded 3 times in battle.net same problem. I can't even find where it's saving files to either. I've asked on different forums and it seems no one even knows. This patch they issued is only for game play, not the broken shader problem. I can't honestly believe they've completely ignored the many thousands who can't even play, thanks to game breaking massive shader bug. Obsidian please do something so we can play, we can't get passed the bizarre shader program, because we're running 13/14 gen intel processors, ontop of RTX4090 graphics cards.

Dave Niemeier Posted Wednesday at 11:13 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:13 PM I have Avowed installed on my PC and my laptop. Laptop is Ryzen CPU and RTX 4070 running Windows 11 Pro, most recent patch. The game loads and runs fine. On my PC, same OS, which is an Intel CPU (I9 12900K) with an RTX 4070SC. The game randomly will not load - about 90% of the time, I mean I wait for 30 minutes and nothing happens Other times, but rarely, it loads in about 3 minutes. No problems with compiling shaders or with game crashes. The game shows as running in Steam and in task manager but it is not actually loading or running and is not showing as using CPU in Task Manager It appears to be waiting for a process that is stuck. Tried verify files, loading with -dx11 and running Steam as admin. Tried turning off antivirus and firewall. Nothing helps. All my other Steam games load and run fine.
ARTEM ZHIVOKORENTSEV Posted Thursday at 01:36 PM Posted Thursday at 01:36 PM Same problem. After launch just a black screen and nothing more. 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900KF RTX 4080 Win 11 latest version (24H2) Dx 12

Hokkaido_Emi Posted Thursday at 08:54 PM Posted Thursday at 08:54 PM (edited) what is quite telling, is that I have played other Unreal Engine 5 games on this same computer without any problems. Then again I didn't have to go through shader setup. I never had any stutters or other problems, just problems with game design not hardware. I have Ryzen amd processor 7940 laptop with 64gb ddr 5 6800mhz and an rtx4070 graphics card. I had heard there where problems even with these setups, so I downloaded the game on said laptop, and with some trepidation, attempted to the load the game, it took a few minutes but then it was straight into the settings without a hiccup. (Unlike my pc...) I haven't tried character creation or anything else, but I am betting it will run without problems. Edited 20 hours ago by Hokkaido_Emi
