i'd rather just use the gasmask that protects me 100% and have to repair it. 

All you need is healing items; I just gassed a Black Widow with 2 Super Stink Sack arrows with the badge equipped (I was on a rock where it couldn’t reach me), and it only took like half of my health when I fully upgraded my health via Milk Molars (one did less than a fifth of my health, tested it while I waited for the Widow to respawn). I should try it with the Green Shield Bug, but I am guessing that with smoothies, it is possible still to melee vs range still.

The Toxicology Badge could still be worth it for the Dust Resist, which is good in the upper yard for fighting termites and dust mites.
