Game is not working via MS Store but via Steam

I own the game on Steam and it runs perfectly.

I bought the game for a friend via MS Store and it installs, but when they start the game it just says "Oops, something went wrong" and closes. 
My friend installed the game via Steam (from my account) and it runs perfectly fine on their pc. 
Honestly, I just want to refund the game on MS and buy it for them on steam, but as I bought a gift code, which is already redeemed, I cannot refund the game on MS Store.

If anyone has any more idea on how the fix the MS store installation (yes, we used google and tried every "fix" there was and nothing worked)
