Companion Problems Nintendo Switch

When I set up a ranger I can't get any companions (wolf, stag boar etc) to appear, have redone character 3 times now and chosen different animals, nothing, should my companion appear immediately the game starts? Or do they appear somewhere down the line? Does anyone else have similar problems?

As far as I know its a switch specific bug. You are better to write in tech support forum
