Requirements to turn a ship during naval combat

I've bought a junk, however during naval combat I have no options to turn the ship or jibe, so I can't shoot. As for bug, it seems too obvious not to be fixed, maybe I'm missing something? The ship is manned except 1 deckhand is missing. I play the game for the first time, blindly, but fast search showed nothing.

Hi, you posted this on the wrong forum. This is PoE - but junks and naval combat are from Deadfire. 

I have no idea why you can't jibe - maybe low sail health? Or it's indeed the missing deckhand. I never encountered or read about that problem before though.

The mystery was resolved in Neketaka - Beodul was found in my old ship, so I sailed without helmsman
