The entire game goes dark when it is in the foreground

I have a strange issue where if the game is open in the background on my machine it appears normal. However, when I switch the game to the foreground the screen goes extremely dark (this happens on the menu and in game as well). If I then switch the game to the background it returns to the correct brightness

 

Do you have any suggestions on setting to make that could fix this issue please?

Same problem here I think.  Not sure how to make it go in the background... but as soon as I start a new game... I see the recap of the events of PoE 1, then it says something like "And so you awake to a sleepless world..." and the screen is just black, but I can see the cursor.  I hit escape, and I see a very faint PoE2 Deadfire logo, but no actual menu.  I have tried multiple resolutions, but no success.  Extremely frustrating, especially when it has been out for so long.
