I just got Deadfire and imported my endgame save from PoE. It recognized my pledge to Hylea, and after agreeing to do as Berath asked, I then got taken to the character creation screen,. My character does not appear in the "Import Character" section, am I doing something wrong, or do I actually have to reconstruct my character from scratch?

Sorry for the confusion you are having with the Character Creation.  The PoE importer only imports different decisions that were made by your Watcher in the first game as they can affect what occurs in Deadfire.  Now that Deadfire has newer choices available for Character Creation, we made it so that players must recreate their watchers how they want them to be whether it's the same or new.  Your Watcher will also be level 1 again as they have been weakened after being crushed by a giant statue, so they will need to gain experience and choose their abilities again.
