Basically the title.  If I am fighting a mob and "turn around" to cast a spell, but don't actually move, am i being penalized?

 

Many games you cannot block from behind, or the enemy does extra damage from other mechanics.  Near as I can tell these don't exist in this game, so I am free to turn away from my enemy and cast a spell in a different direction?

Nope, no penalty/punishement as long as you don't move away.
