Are there any mods that replace wolves and other animals with things I don't feel bad killing, like giant spiders and such? I know, it's just a game, but it's hard to feel like a hero when you are running around slaughtering various furry creatures for XP and loot. Thanks.

Dont know about mod but i played a character that tried not to kill beast type characters and in a lot of areas just go around. you dont have to fight if the area is an open wilderness area. i get in dungeons and such its way harder but there are lots of area you just move around.
