I killed Torn Bannermen in the Observatory except for a mage and a priest who did not go upstairs after me. Now if I ambush and kill the mage before the priest, who comes to his aid, manages to do anything, combat ends. On the screenshot, the priest is still casting a spell, but it is already out of combat (auto-pause is not triggered in combad). He then does nothing, even if attacked; new combat does not start.

I was able to replicate this situation.
