    • Don't know if any of the crew read the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Combat and tactics there some nice things in it to. Just a instance where a double team can function well together from it, a sword and board fighter holding the ones storming while a 2handed uses he range benefit with a polearms or spear to pose a threat for those who gets within spear range from getting stabbed, giving the sword and board some breathing space from some that might look for weaknesses otherwise up close to jab in past. Not sure why those options were never added into the pc games as it would give some worth to 2handed weapons which often fall way behind in usefulness to the tanking abilities but also the dual wielder who usually can push out more damage.

  1. Looks all over nice I think, there something a bit weird about the shadows however.

1st picture the shadows of one the cultist is cast backwards(up) while the objects around cast shadows downwards in a diagonal.

2nd thing there only one shadow cast on some them while there more than one light source around, usually light with give a strong clear shadow from the strongest light source and a slightly more dim from the second. But assume some of this has to do with it being a 2D most some of it, but don't know if your doing it or even if its possible but say for instance the avatar are 3D on a 2D background to have light source pointers which an avatar sensor object picks up and projects shadow accordingly. But don't know anything about programming, but the shadows did not look completely on the spot for me.

  2. i have just recently bought kotor2 and discovered that i needed a detonator driver to run it.problem is, when i actually got hold of the forementioned driver it was still asking for this peticular driver.im running vista on a machine that should in theory run this game without hitch as it's 2 weeks old.help, played this on the xbox a while ago and would love to play again especially as i have spent money on it.http://forums.obsidian.net/style_emoticons/default/ermm.gif

There some fixes guide to running Kotor 2 on vista under the Kotor 2 forums.

  3. hey guys, i'm running a 32-bit Vista ultimate system with a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 card. I've got plenty of RAM and memory but this problem always pops up.

ok so i bought the game, installed it, and i noticed that it wouldn't start the first time i tried to run it, but the second time it started ok. but this got really annoying when the next day i had to try to start it about 26 times. so, i fired up my trusty old firefox and got to work. i found a vista fix and i thought yay, problem solved. i was wrong. it will start now, but when it gets to the first loading screen (you know the one before the main menu?) i get the black screen of death and my standard mouse pointer shows up in the middle of the screen (when i move to rims it gos to KOTOR pointer) and it crashes.

ive tried running as admin, setting the compatibility to XP, force software, v-sinc, disableing movies and im at a losss of what to do next. any help?

Think i might be able to give you a bit help with it.

    1. You need the latest patch i believe with a bit of search you can get it through Lucasarts database.

    2. You need this file and follow the instructions and it will work(youd still get a few occasional crashes with Vista but then again vista has same problems with alot of other games).

    link: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.c...;85439x#1443935.

Note this Vista fix only works with the latest patch so you need to get it through the Lucasarts database or by other means.

Hope its of any help it works for mine so imagine it should for yours to :p

  4. Anyone know what lightsaber move Darth serron uses in the movie(Dark Resurrection) is called where he puts the ligtsaber in the ground and sorta creates a shockwave like force energy wave, never seen that one before is it the famous Force earthquake thingy or what the hell its called one of the ancient sith lords used to kill his master with or something?

Hey and if Obisdian crew is watching could we get for for kotor 3 is it happens to show up ^^

  5. I wonder if he will become one of the Dark Lords of the Sith in Kotor 2. The masters are pretty dead set in trying to kill him because of their visions that he will end the Jedi Order. Nihilus when he was young?

Well they might end doing the exact opposite of their intention, i mean look at Darth Vader it was his visions that led Padme to die if he hadent been so obsessed with them she would properly still be alive and he would probaly still be a jedi and not a sith.

But then i havent read much of the comixs so dont really know if its the case for this Zayne Carrick fellow or not.

Personally id love for once to be a nobody that shows talents and become greater and unlocks more powerful abilities, Quick to master i think is the D&D term for that ^^

And hopefully more starwars i mean with intrigue and learning as student and political power possibilities as Dark side, i mean at least for me the fun in playing Sith is to raise above the common thugs that just mindlessly plunder or kill random people because they can use the force, think its alot more fun as Sith to create connection and built up your own empire small or big with political powers and alliances.

I like playing both good and evil, mostly favor good thou because most games as evil only offers a chance to be a thug, which is rather boring and get old fast, and doesnt really feel like alot of RPG options since most of thug play you can easily do in other games such as Grand theft auto and do on alot higher level than most RPGs.

Wish if they do indeed make a Kotor 3 there more interesting roleplay options for dark side then being a plane thug, loved the Kotor 2 apprentice options thought it was a nice add to game play.

  6. I hope you played Mask of the Betrayer, because most "issues" you mentioned there were addressed. The NWN2 OC henchman were indeed mostly for functional purposes, but you get a lot deeper insight into the MOTB comrades. I mean who could have guessed that I'd start sympathising with a bald woman?

Havent started Motb yet working on getting a new character through NWN2 OC, also to remember things better from the OC in case there comes some story cookies tied with it in Motb.

Think a way they might be able to make small talk in a sense where it doesnt have the same annoyence as in BG 2 where it did target pop ups mostly outside combat but dident always account for aggressors nearby that could agro during conversation, but might be possible for system to run a some hidden threat check for hostile and keep conversation to time tables where there hasent been combat for a certain amount of time, so the dialogue would seem to come on a natural moments where things are a bit dull and the air sorta gives up for some conversation, at least its a thought?

  7. Theory on Gray Jedi:

    Potentium

Counter to millennia of Jedi teachings, the followers of Potentium claimed that there was no inherent evil in viewing the Force. They claimed that what others called the light side was actually just the Force itself, which is inherently good. This was backed up by the fact that Ashla, the ancient name of the Force, came later to describe the Light Side. What others therefore called the dark side was a perversion of the Force, twisted by those who used it. Believers of Potentium said that the potential for light and dark sides resided in the user, not the Force itself. They also thought that the Jedi Masters refused to believe in the Potentium view because it would mean the Jedi weren't needed to fight evil, for evil would not exist. And since there was no dark side, there were no dark side actions or Force techniques; in effect any action, good or evil, could be performed without risk as long as the intent wasn't evil.

About a century before the Battle of Naboo, the followers of Potentium were expelled from the Jedi Order, parallel to the Jedi Order's treatment of Gray Jedi as "misguided." Yoda and the rest of the Jedi Council didn't consider them Dark Jedi, but they said it was the duty of the Jedi to use the Force to protect others, not study its absolute limits. The Council said that testing the Force to its limits would lead to the dark side.

    Grey Jedi

Gray Jedi was a term, sometimes used pejoratively, that described Jedi who were thought to operate independently and often outside the strictures of the High Council.

The term itself seems to date back as far as the Old Sith Wars. Certainly, during this time period, Gray Jedi themselves seem to have become associated even with a certain variety of robe. In the following millennia, the term continued to increase in usage, most likely due to the increasing trend towards centralization of power in the Order, and the increased prominence of the Jedi Council itself.

Most Gray Jedi had a tense relationship with the Council; while, for most intents and purposes, they were loyal members of the Jedi Order, their maverick natures often put them into conflict with it, especially against more conservative members of the Council.

It is perhaps this friction, combined with their unorthodox behavior that made it rare for a Gray Jedi to join the Council themselves or ascend to any position of real leadership in the order. After all, the High Council chose its own members, and most of the time their preference was for orthodox Jedi, such as the group described as the Old Guard. Qui-Gon Jinn's candidacy was rejected in favor of Plo Koon, and then Ki-Adi-Mundi, both of whom were more in line with the Council's way of thinking.

For instance, Kreia is a follower of the Potentium theory, while Jolee Bindo is a a Grey Jedi.

    Source: Wookiepedia

George lucas said at one point in a forum interview that there no powers in the force that inheritly dark or lightside, its how they used that determines what they are, think it was in relation to Luke skywalker using choke on the orcs at Jabba the huts hideout in return of the jedi think it was cant remember.

But i think i balance personally my best view, a world cant truely be a unchaotic place without both good and evil, without a contrast things become a normality, a world without evil be a world of grey without light because everything we see wouldnt have a counter measure and we see in perspective to opposite, its everything we do nothing rarely ever has a inbetween answer.

Other example could be in a world of ego selfish a random act of generousity may be viewed as good, but had it been a world with non existing evil, where everone was generous to each other it would simply be seen as a normality a thing everyone does simply because they do, without any evil its hard for most people to see a contrast, in a equilibrium between its easier for ous to see good and evil when there contrasts to measure against.

Also think there alot of habits in never really being happy with what you have less you know its something you can never truely be sure youd always have, youd treasure something special to yourself that you worry for losing alot more than something you know will simply always be there, think its human nature.

  8. Well bioware are officially recruiting people atm for a mmo game so there is a chance it could be Kotor online, but again i suppose one never really knows, but still strikes me odd if george lucas having most his assets tied in papers and bonds would throw on a wild shot of making indian jones computer game without knowing that the sequal indian jones 4 is i a success or not, but who knows he might surprise me.

  9. This is Baldur's Gate 3 by another name, right? If so, excellent! ;)

Well believe it had something to do with back when it was called Black isle studios they only had marked right on making games related to Baldur's gate as far as i understood, so its not supposed to have any relation to the BG trilogy, at least what i gather from what ive scooped on forums, it was only originally labeled that in order for them to have the rights to marked it using that title.

Its why games was called stuff like baldur's gate: dark alliance...

At least thats what i heard

  10. I wanna start of by saying this is in no way to be taken as heavy critique, as i find that Neverwinter 2 OC had alot of interesting characters, but after playing it through sometimes now i cant help but feel a more and more growing unhappiness with the lack of character depth, there alot of interesting character but i feel at times that its more a opion from them than actually a relationship or bonding.

Take Qara as a example she is a girl who obviously think very fondly of her talent and herself in general i imagine she was raised a good deal more upperclass than a commoner, and i always wondered why she would never be curious why a good looking talented sorcerer player character for instance could ever handle growing up in a place like a swamp, id imagine she would be a bit appauled by it but seeing the result same time be a bit curious or at least wondering how the player character considered growing up a place like that himself.

In other words i think the game missed alot of small task about loose themes that sorta opens door to get to know and bond with your travelling companions more on a personal level and idenfy yourself on some level with their stories or form opions about them, and think it a bit of a shame you only see a more surface side of them.

I mean with month-years travelling together they never try bond a friendship or even a romantical relationship with people they travel with, nwn2 OC obviously takes at least one year in game, seeing as you cant fully repair a stronghold in a few weeks it takes month or years.

So wanted to put this up for a future notice if we could have more npc small talks and interactions in future obsidian rpg games and possible less hack & slash if it helps provide the time for more depth into development of the npcs.

And as stated in the beginning of the thread i liked nwn2 OC so this is merely a surgestion to improve the exsperience as player even more in future game releases, in advance thank to any people reading this, and place a comment here.

  11. It's quite likely that's talking about a Star Wars-related game, but there's also a chance it might be something else - Indiana Jones, for example.

Possible could be a mmorpg thou, Bioware made a thread to employ people for a mmorpg, since most the successful mmorpg that more or less being done to death mainly focus around already existing content, it wouldnt be a far off bet they might be making Kotor into mmorpg.

Age of conan=focused on written material/conan comix books

World of Warcraft=based on warcraft series

Warhammer online= Focused on warhammer theme

Lord of the ring online= Focused on J.R tolkien

Nearly all those either very discussed or very played online games focused on already existing themes or storylinies, so wouldnt surprise me if Bioware figure Kotor being such a success to focus a online game on it.

Besides its hard for them to make something ground breaking as was promised that suppass the "the force unleashed" from what ive seen from it, and think making a indian jones game might be a huge dice roll given that last indian jones movie is long in the past and throwing on marked alot of titles related to it might be a big risk before Indian jones 4 hit the marked to check if it succeed or not at a triology sequel.

So guess i am most money on Kotor online, it wont be completely groundbreaking seeing as Starwars galaxy already exist, but they can still add to it suppose with new innovative thinking.

  12. I don't know the validity, but it's hit the front page of digg and would fit the rumors based on Bioware's new Austin studio for MMO.

    http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/10/19/...kotor-universe/

Think its close to either its a Kotor mmorpg or kotor3 or a new starwars product its pretty solid that they gonna be doing a new starwars universe game its confirmed by lucasarts more or less, check this link

    http://www.lucasarts.com/company/release/news20071030.html

EDIT: shame thou if Obsidian arent gonna be doing kotor 3, thought kotor 2 was far better than kotor 1 i mean i thought there were alot more depths in kotor 2 than the first from bioware :)

  13. I hope to god its not true, not because i dont like Kotor series i love them, but a mmo would kill the great rp storylinies and eventually kill kotor series completely...

Hate to be a skeptic but just look at how famous the Warcraft series been throughout the years, now with World of Warcraft its going down the slope, pvp is more or less dead or a joke, lore been violated aswell killing alot of it away, game challenge levels dropped down dramatically, its a grindfest, and not to say the least it has all become about end levels and all inbetween slowly becoming a barren wasteland.

Now i for one hope they wont ruin Kotor by destroying the great roleplaying atmosphere, great storylinies and loveable character developments they made in the past 2, thou obsidians version still my favorite, i just dont hope for a mmo version from bioware possible destroying a good thing like with the Warcraft brand going down the sink.

    Just my 2cent on it

  14. Id probaly go with Luke skywalker or Revan since they have had exsperience outside being jedi or sith, to much strengh in one field is the greatest weakness of all it makes you predictable also slave you into one certain field of exspertise, and can be easily overcome in some aspects.

  15. I have Visas, Mandalore and Mira. The bad guys cut through us like a hot knife through butter. The entire party is about lvl 21.

Can anyone recommend an equipment configuration and a tactic for having a chance in this battle?

    Thanks in advance!

Thought it went best for me with well upgraded melee characters with swords, and one jedi or 2 depending on how your setting is as of groups, whats importent if possible is getting armor and jedi combat armor (lightclass) with energy resistance gear is severly reduces the damage from lightsaber if you combine it with energy shield you absorb a fair bit of the damage if you have saves from light side buff and stat buff it helps a bit in the dc saves against force power attacks.

Further id go for the master first since the chances his dc force skills are highest is the best so makes sense to take him out first.

  16. In the unmodified game, isn't Consular by far the easiest class to play with? You have the fighting skills of a Guardian and can spam force powers almost unlimited. I really liked the rebalance mod from Team Gizka. No more just walking through Peragus hacking and slashing your way unchallenged (because, you could hardly hit a locker with a sword).

They the best finish class of the once ive played Consular/sith lord at least, since they the ones with the best combat powers in force form and not light saber melee, if you built a consular/sith lord right he can force hit with lightning and kill most everyone in a 2 shot bust, and if you facing heavy forces a the tier 3 fear one can stun them and allow you 2-3 force burst to kill them, for bosses a simple force crush or the sith lord one cant remember its name spam and everything is easy kill only real annoying part thou is the multi lightsaber floating parts since they are fairly resistant to force powers and need a bit of chopping.

Well to be fair consular/sith lord shine most in multi combat situations where gaurdian/weapon master or whatever it was called shine best in heads up fights 1vs1

  17. Yah Dark rage and force speed and you could kill just about anythign with ease then buff health back with force heal afterwards, as for graphic and animation has a huge say for me at least mostly animation, if animation is bad the graphic can be hollywood qaulity but game would still be bad, because everything would be robotic without good animation.

  18. Do we know anything for sure about Kotor 3 if its Obisidian who is making or if Bioware passed everything sorrounding future Kotor series to obsidian, and as to if its bioware who is gonna stand for it if the even wanna make a 3rd, and if its obsidian its properly not gonna be anytime soon with both Motb and and Alien under production, i know Lucas said to a fan in a interview that he would said lucasarts to make another or something like that but i dont honest know if he even has that influence.

But personally i hope for a new one would been awesome if it been with the new techonlogy they gonna use in The force unleashed i hate so much its not gonna be for pc anytime soon :sorcerer:

They developed a physic system for it where object break naturally and objects interact with sorroundings flying people trying to grab ontp things and things breaking by wieght and stuff i so much want that game just dont wanna buy a xbox or something like that just for one game :)

  19. I fail to see it. If the Empire had won, you would have had a power struggle between Vader and Sidious, and it would probably resemble the infighting of the Imperial Remnant, the Yuuzhan Vong woulda still showed up a few decades later, which would have given the Empire a common enemy after they get their asses handed to 'em for the first half of the war (and I get this feeling Sidious woulda set up Vader's death at the Vong's hands during this period) before the tide turns in favor of the Empire, running the Vong out of the galaxy. And then the power struggles would resume again.

... and the only difference would be a Death Star, but for how long that structure would last is unknown (kinda like its significance)....

Well you would have Had i war between Vader and Sidious its always been Vader plan to dethrone him, what he was waiting i imagine is debatable personally i think it had to do with Vader knowing his master techinque were still better than his while Vader mediclorians were clearly higher, so he needed a ally to take him down, Aka why he asked Luke skywalker help him kill the emperor and rule the galaxy with him, and later possible his secret apprentice in the force unleashed.

  20. Barzarel can't you just understand that you CAN NOT USE HISTORY OF ETHICS AND CULTURES OF REAL WORLD AS ARGUMENTS in Star Wars world goddamnitchristsakes! :bat:

Okay then in the starwars perspective do you think the old republic would been a better place if Windu Mace had killed the Emperor and taken control of the senate in the name of the Jedi order to secure peace, Had Anakin Skywalker not stopped him, i somehow strongly doubt it i think it would been just as bad as the Sith just in another manner, it would been a controlled society and policed one.

Before you knew it youd likely have emotional police around making sure we all had sterile emotion clean and white, every organization that pure good or evil are the worst kind ever to exist they the one that create wars and tear societies to pieces breaking people into group deciding who is good and evil who belongs and who dont, best kind of peace if the neutrals where people arent put into flock or pushed to any directions or forced influenced.

I know what most would say good never create evil, and yes they do they make things so white that people that were initially grey starts wondering i am not white enough maybe i just dont fit in and eventually grow depressions and all sort of dark things inside till the manage to convince themselves its true.

The once that always make trouble and wars are always the extremes of either, because they so busy invading others minds and thinking and judging everyone and boxing people into catagories.

While most good or white do have general honest intention its mostly when everyone is somewhat neutral we can all get along and in peace, because we all different and mostly in big ways and you cant just fit people into boxes and not exspect them not to be robots or rebel against it.

Imagine the repulbic having only 1 view point then there would been a billion wars if it was jedi or Sith it would been the same hell created.

Its people who force people into extreme thinking that create evil if or not its with purpose.
