  1. BG1 low lvl memory: Running through forests, loading next forest after a long wait. I happen to enter near a random skeleton that throws a dart at my full HP mage. I die.

That wasn't fun but it makes a good tale. But I guess it's not too different from loading up where a mage happens to cast Finger of Death or a high level trap's sprung.

I hope when my reasonably experienced party gets their own wizard tower we can have a dungeon called "the pit" where we have a dozen hungry cats. Naturally we'd throw low level adventurers inside so the cats deal 1d2 damage and kill them while they can't actually hit any of the cats because they're nubs.

To me the thing that made low BG so fun was the "Greatest defeated" and "% party XP gained". That more than anything made me want to make sure my main character landed all the finishing blows, and it was worth it. That made me want to get enemies down to their few last hps while my mage nailed them with crappy magic missiles.

Note that the system doesn't depend on low lvl - rather the trophy hunting desire.

Also pls consider releasing economic/keep mission add-on packs after the game's done.

  2. 1. More head models please. Please.

    2. I have high expectations for the economic model. Mix politics and cunning into it. It's what I've always wanted.

    3. Option of naming my trading empire "Big Oil"

    3. A separate summary screen for economic/info on guilds, how friendly other guilds are etc/deals made would be nice. Esp useful to summarize main characters you'll deal often with from the guilds. For example guild masters, local lords/ladies, council members or whatever.

    4. Dialogue structure where other party members can be selected to make responses, using their social skills.

    5. More head models.

    6. More clothes and option to colour/dye them. Selling of the outfits for 1gp was good, with option to enchant them. Maybe even a special city tailor shop that players unlock when they have enough influence that does nice custom jobs/more selections. Could have nice tie-ins with quests and rewards.

    7. Explore idea of patronage for artists (the tailor above?) or certain businesses, cities. Your "home" city may have a higher opinion of you because of your deeds than others that suffered from your trading policies.

    8. Option to negotiate trade embargos with other guilds against enemies. Blockades.

    Quest suggestions:

    1. Shapeshifter assassins replace your horses and attack your party in the wilderness.

    2. Quest where people loot your gear from your parked horses and you hunt them down.

  3. What about the solo option? Can you complete the game/story solo?

Lol I remember someone's writeup on his solo with his purposely retarded/handicapped halfling rogue. Not sure if that'd still be possible if NWN forces you to assign all your ability points and most of the skill points at each lvl up.

  4. Is the single selected character still going to be doing all the talking with NPCs or can the other chars (probably with better specialized social skills) be able to back up/chip in the conversation?

Would be nice if halfway through my (main) wiz's conversation I can switch to my rogue to intimidate/bluff and back to wiz again etc. Not scripted, but I choose to do it while maintaining the dialogue tree.

  5. I want Dance Dance NWN.

You know, I'm concerned of the resting system in SoZ.

MotB forces the players to consider their strategic situation before resting, thus forcing the players not to abuse resting.

How will SoZ stop players from abusing the resting system that affected the gameplay of NWN2 and NWN1? One way I could guess would be using time to affect the gameplay along the lines of Fallout 1. The world is dynamic to the point that after XX days later, if the player do not accomplish certain quests it would result in branching into a different scenario and ending. Another would be that it would affect the In-game economic status where bandits would attack your trade outpost or caravans that would affect your wealth or in-game opportunities if not dealt sooner.

But again that seems to be quite complicated for such system to be integrated into a NWN2 engine where it keeps track of days and time.

Maybe the quests you pick up have time limits. Wait a week to save the child lost in the forest? Wolves got to her.

Wait too long to investigate the ruins? Other adventurers plundered it.

However it could be a waste of effort. Instead of playing through say the 6 scenarios created, a player'd only get to choosea few if the rest time out. Otherwise mod them so the timing would have a different post-event scenario.

  6. Economic empire. Awesome.

You know what'd be even more awesome? Some dude up for election/local leader that complains about your company making too much profits and you should be taxed more - special taxes to pay for universal health care for Faerun and better education. Maybe you get taxed more as you get more successful. Kind of like to encourage the small upstart businesses. Maybe the local community will complain when the unprofitable/inefficient family businesses get replaced by your trading empire. Especially when you outsource all the labor to ? and flood them with quality (decision on what quality and price would be nice) goods at lower prices that they all buy.

Also s/he'd complain that you're making profits off war - trading weapons, magic scrolls etc. Plus among the first to round up ally leaders and head to talks with enemies without conditions. Might make an interesting hostage rescue mission. Either that or you could cunningly trick all of the leaders around the lands into your stronghold so they're right for the taking.

Economic empire + cunning = Win

  7. Hey thanks for the links. I'll scrutinize them when I have more time.

In the meanwhile here's something that somewhat agrees with my desire for details, and articulated comparative cost-benefit analysis with other plans.

Economists usually get bonus points from me.

Call the bluff on campaign fluff By Gary M. Galles

Malibu, Calif. - Many of us have had the experience of really trying to listen to a politician give a speech and yet walk away feeling they may not actually have said anything.

It's too bad, especially in this election cycle, when so much seems to ride on choosing between candidates. How can we make informed decisions when we don't understand positions?

The answer: Start thinking a little more like economists

  8. It seems to me Obama's good with inspiring speeches but hasn't gone much into the details. Change is nice, but what change exactly? Details pls. And lots of that. He'll have time to get into that. Hopefully.

I'm not sure if he's fully articulated the effects of some of his policies like immediately pulling out of Iraq either. Details pls.

Not sure if McCain's any better on giving solid answers though.

Otherwise his campaign will turn out like the South Park zombies going around asking for "change".

  9. I think there's tones of Malthusian logic where productivity gains will increase the population and consumption per person will erode again as the population increases. However tech has managed to defy that so far.

I think efficiency and resource management and sustainable consumption is the way forward. By the way, make sure there's enough food etc producers to support the rest when cutting down the population...

  10. Right on. I think it had the right vibe throughout the movie. Even Spiderman has the cringing sentimentality with Green Goblin/Aunt May going on with the Mary Jane bad relationship **** happening in every one. Iron Man's just fun through the whole movie.

Plus I really got the feeling of excitement and freedom when he went to fly his v2 suit around. That was really good to me.

  11. The themes of Requiem are different enough to those of Masquerade that you can be in control of your own fate though. And I imagine chosing your covenant could be a very integral part of the game, if a more open ended approach was to be taken. Side quests opening and closing depending on who you ally yourself with, a little like New Reno in Fallout (and yes even with the possibility to work for several factions at once, at least up to a point).

That's the impression I got too, that a game would be based more on the Covenant than the Clans.

An interesting use of the long age of Kindred could be playing flashbacks in the game. A lot like KOTOR2's Exile recalling the meeting with the Jedi Council that happened long ago. In this case Requiem could go even further back, across the ages to say Renaissance Europe complete with change in architecture, speech patterns and fashion while the main characters may be the same.

I haven't thought it out yet, but a prequel expansion may have less "choice problems" because it doesn't need to accomodate for the branches the player made in the original game (and try to fit those into the story - like how Mask of the Betrayer sort of asks the player what happened at the end, whether they were evil/good etc). The prequel would know how the story goes and can build from there. The disadvantage I guess is you sorta know the ending and how it leads to the original game. However there's still lots of fresh area to expand into, and grow the characters.

Plus maybe for the first time the expansion won't have to deal with super high levels - the character would actually regress back and start at a weaker state.

  12. I'm browsing wikipedia on Vampire: The Requiem and I notice players have a few choice nodes.

Clan: Daeva, Gangrel, Mekhet, Nosferatu, Ventrue (and that's before counting Bloodlines)

Covenants: The Carthian Movement, The Circle of the Crone, The Invictus, The Lancea Sanctum, The Ordo Dracul, The Unaligned

That gives 30 (5x6) combinations which is a lot of scenarios to assume in an open ended game.

Would a pc/console rpg assuming you're a member of The Invictus (with any clan combination) and playing from their political/ perspective give a more satisfying experience for you, or would you prefer an open-ended scenario? Maybe a compromise between the two? Or maybe a series of expansions that give more attention to certain Covenants?

For reference I think Bloodlines was a compromise, giving a few options but not all of them (no option for Saabat).

  13. Noir has its moments - the slow paces are sometimes done well and the action scenes are really good but it's sorta okay-ish in general. Last Exile is MUCH better. I really rate it. But I haven't seen Mai-Hime yet. Noein looked interesting but I didn't really finish it.

Btw check out Kannon if you can. Foxgirl ftw!

Also yeah I like the shoujo too. Ouran Host Club and Yamato Nadeshiko for the lulz. Still, School Rumble's the way to go.

  14. Glad you guys are enjoying stuff. I'd recommend School Rumble (season 1 then 2) for the epic lulz and then check out Honey and Clover (season 1 and 2 - though I enjoyed 1 more) for a drama-ey show that's still awesome. But it's sorta few years old.

On new stuff, I tried an ep or two of Spice and Wolf which did look interesting. I still follow Rental Magica when I can lol. Also check out Darker than Black if you haven't.

Btw there's some Persona one that I was looking forward to. Hope I'll get to watch it sometime.
