  1. I am not solo'ing. I am using a Cipher because that was the class i used in PoE (where i used it because it fit the plot), and Paladin because i found that build i linked to earlier and found it to fit nicely from a RP perspective with the whole Herald thing. I do wan't to min-max a bit, but lets keep this thread specific to Cipher/Paladin. I am playing on Veteran with Scaling: All / Only Up (or i was, now i am not sure if i want to restart to reshuffle my stats again) This is what i "hate" about games like these, i sometimes never get started, because i keep wanting to tweak builds or try other builds.
  2. I would have though Perception more important, because its fairly critical to miss with Soul Annihilation, Flames of Devotion etc. But you think that my current distribution is pretty bad then ?: Mig 14 Con 10 Dex 15 Per 20 Int 14 Res 5 I suppose you would want to transfer Per to Mig and Dex. They balanced the stats pretty well, its tricky to get right EDIT: Besides just making sure attacks actually hit, Per (and thus Acc) also increases the chance of a critical hit, right? That also has to be factored in when comparing to Mig.
  3. Right now i am trying this: Mig 14 Con 10 Dex 15 Per 20 Int 14 Res 5
  4. That guide is from when whispers of the endless paths worked with soul annhilation. Imho dual wield is better and you dont need as much dex when you dual wield. Thank you for the input, after googling a bit, i think i will try dual wield instead. But why is less Dex needed? Dex would seem to translate directly into more DPS by making you attack more often. Is it because the dual wield bonus is so high (+20%)?
  5. Thank you for replying. I am pretty confused on how important Dex is? If it affects recovery time, then it would seem much stronger than Might for DPS? Thats why i am wondering why you are lowering Dex in your example. As to Int, the plan was to focus on melee ( i got tired of being a ranged glass cannon in PoE 1) and destructive cipher abilities (to match the whole Soul Blade thing), and Int did not seem *that* important for that. The build was inspired by this: https://fextralife.com/pillars-of-eternity-2-builds-guide-inquisitor/
  6. Hi, I recently finished PoE 1 with a ranged Wood Elf Cipher (which was very min-maxed). Given the whole herald thing i thought i would try a Cipher/Paladin build. (Soul Blade/Kind Wayfarer). However, i am not entirely sure how to distribute stats. Accuracy (Perception) seems extremely important with this build, to hit with Soul Annihilation and Flames Of Devotion, but i am unsure as to just how important Dex and Mig is. The bonus from Mig seems slightly insignificant compared to the other damage bonuses on this build. So far i have this (Wood Elf again, mostly to match PoE 1 build): Mig 16 Con 10 Dex 19 Per 20 Int 10 Res 3 (<= figure its can RP as related to the whole missing part of soul bit, but is it overdoing it? Any input appreciated, i hate finding out later that i messed up completely.
  7. Sure, if the weapon is soulbound, its easy to decide But for example ciphers fuel their "spells" through doing damage, so enchanting their weapons can make sense. My concern regarding armor, was that i was still unsure whether i should wait for better armors to show up later in the game. However, for now i have enchanted Argwes Adra (on Eder). He is my primary tank, so i find it unlikely that he will want to swap armor.
  8. Well, the effects on weapons seem quite drastic, offering higher attack speed, improved crit chance and damage. I am also unsure about whether better armor /shields are likely to come along etc. Does durgan effects always stack with everything else?
  9. I cannot decide how to best use the durgan steel, so thought id ask for input. My current setup is: Eder: Bittercut (durganized), (ranged backup Fellstroke) / Argwes Adra+Bagradrs Barricade Kana: Shatterstar (durganized) (ranged backup Aedrins Wrecker) / White Crest Armor + Last Tower Durance: Whispers of Yenwood, Exceptional Arquebus / Golden Scales + Ilfan Byrngars Solace Hiravias: Gyrd Haewanes Stenes (melee backup: Drawn in Spring) / Wayfarers Hide + Larder Door Grieving Mother: Leadspitter (durganized) PC (Cipher): Stormcaller I have enough durgan ingots for 3 more enchants. I was unsure about durganizing lead spitter but figured the crit change+mult bonus would be worth it. I am not quite sure whether shields and armors are worth enchanting?
  10. It was okay with Sagani, but i swapped for the following reasons: * Sagani lacked tactical options in tough fights * Sagani gets sad when her fox gets knocked out * Hiravias could provide decent ranged capability while also providing better melee when spirit-shifted (so better at saving my two ciphers if things started going wrong) * Spells like firebrand, while not restless, drains very little per-rest resources, and also provides good melee attacks * That storm spell is awesome * Hiravias has a more interesting personality than Sagani
  11. In case anyone cares, i kept Durance, and swapped Sagani for Hiravias in much of the same role, but with more kick when needed. His per encounter spiritshift is quite convenient even when not using spells. It seems to me the Druid class is pretty powerful, at a glance more than Wizards?
  12. Tried all 20 days... no luck. Still it gave me a chance to pick the best loot among the days. I guess i will have to stick with the Stronghold +2 rest bonus.
  13. Hi, In order to improve "quality-of-life" in playing PoE i would very much like a + Mechanics bonus. I read it could be found in the Raedric Keep Study, and made sure to save before entering that area.I have now tried to do this many times on different days etc, and while i do find different loot, it is never the gloves. Can someone assure me that this is the right spot? (ie the room immediately on the right (with two small chests on a table) when coming up through the dungeons from Osrya's room).
  14. As to party composition, i did get Durance working somewhat bit better, he is now in a Full Plate, and has Inspired Flame wielding a Sword+Shield and an Arquebus. Interesting idea about tanking with Kana, i hadn't really thought about that, but i guess it makes a lot of sense. I might dump Sagani (her talk about home is dull for Aloth, since the declining health usually forces me to rest not too long after i would have rested after running out of spells. The reason i asked about the Paladin was that i thought she might supply more per-encounter buffs. Just looked up Defensive Mindweb. That is pretty crazy Looking forward to trying that out when i get far enough for Level 8 abilities.
  15. I recently started playing PoE with a glasscannon Cipher as main character. (Wood Elf Hunter) I am having a great time playing it (no surprise since BG2/ToB was my all time favorite game), however i am not a fan of the resting mechanism however (something i also disliked in BG1/2). Especially not considering that i need camping equipment, of which i can only have two ( because i am playing on Hard?). Resting does not really make the game harder, just more annoying as you can almost always run back to rest, even after every encounter if you wanted. Anyway, in PoE i noticed that i tended to avoid using my per-rest abilities/spells. Therefore i was thinking about how to build a party (without using custom companions) that was less reliant on resting, but still had lots of abilities/spells to use during combat. My first question is whether there are options to heal health without resting? My second questions is party structure. I recently recruited Grieving Mother, which made fights much more enjoyable (two Ciphers work *really* well). I also have Kana in my party, which also works ok, even if it takes a while for summons to be available, and i am unsure as to how effective all his chanting actually is Right now my party is: Eder (fairly boring in combat, but adds some sanity to the group, and is an effective tank) Durance Sagani (nice RP fit, and provides an (expendable fox to shore up the front lines) Grieving Mother Kana (scary portrait, but otherwise ok) My primary concern is Durance ( a bit too much crazy in the group for my liking , he provides his Holy Radiance per encounter effect, but apart from that he is not very effective. I need to use him in the front-line (Eder + Saganis Fox is hard pressed as the only tanks), but he is always getting knocked out Can he be replaced by the Paladin companion for example? I also tried Aloth in place of Sagani earlier on, but he is so reliant on his per-rest abilities to be effective that i dropped him. My first question is whether there are options to heal health without resting?
  16. I had sworn to avoid a glass cannon build, but i failed miserably I ended up with: Wood Elf Living Lands MIG: 19 <= I want to use a bow and not a firearm (mostly RP reasons), so i figured max damage to bypass DR CON: 3 <= I am sure i can find a good RP reason for that.. At least the high might mitigates the Fortitude defense DEX: 18 <= Fast is good, but i didn't go with 19 because i wanted PER PER: 17 <= Afraid to miss, in particular with CC abilities INT: 18 <= Hopefully sufficient RES: 3 <= Like myself, weak of will Whisper of Treason Mind Wave
  17. Am i reading it right that it also affects chance of spell effects applying? I see a lot of mentions of Acc vs. X/Y/Z under Cipher "spells" effects. In that case i can really see it becoming absolutely critical. I am starting to understand why the Wood Elf is also a popular Race for Cipher. With a wood-elf, can i get away with lower PER? After all a +5 ACC corresponds to 5 points of PER wrt. to ACC Seeing as both INT and and RES supplies Will, would it be okay to dump RES to 3 with INT 18? Kind of wondering if i should try a Wood Elf (Living Lands) instead: MIG 19 CON 8 <= Boosted slightly to be less of glass cannon? DEX 16 PER 14 (giving same ACC as PER 19 on a non-wood elf) INT 18 RES 3 <= Sucky concentration okay? I can see a Living Lands Wood Elf with Hunter background making sense from an RP perspective as well, perhaps a reclusive timid one to explain low RES How about spells? I like the sound of Whisper of Treason, but for my second initial choice, a lot of the others sound great as well, in particular Eyestrike and Mind Wave. So many choices ....
  18. Hi, i just recently bought PoE on Steam, as i am a big fan of the BG series (played through it too many times to count back in the day However, these days i don't have as much time staring at a character creation screen, so i was hoping for some hints on a build. I prefer playing with characters that require lots of management in combat/has lots of abilities to choose between in combat. I also typically avoid using consumables (ie potions/scrolls/special arrows etc), so i don't want a build dependent on those. I plan on playing on Normal based and *not* use custom companions. Looking at the available classes, i was immediately drawn to the Cipher class, but i am confused as to whether to go ranged or melee, and *very* confused as to how to distribute stat points, seeing how different they are from the "typical" RPG stats. Given that Cipher's gain Focus through inflicting damage i would think that Might was actually the most important stat, but the game marks intelligence as the "primary" even though its primary effects seems to be AoE and duration, which while important, does not seem like the primary concern of a Cipher? There must be something i am missing there If i understand correctly, a sensible build is to drop CON+RES in favor of maxing Might and Intellect, and then use a ranged weapon to avoid getting slaughtered in melee? The balance between DEX and PER confuses me a little though. I would have thought that the action speed of DEX was far more important than the accuracy bonus of PER? Based on what i have read (but as mentioned above doesn't fully understand the justification for) would something like this be sensible without being a complete "glass cannon"? Cipher Moon Godlike Old Vailia (or perhaps Livings Lands for 19 MIG instead of 20 INT?) Hunter MIG: 18 CON: 5 DEX: 15 PER: 15 INT: 20 RES: 5 Any input and tips (without spoilers) would be great.
  19. Hi, I am playing through Kotor2 as a neutral(ish) Jedi Consular, and in planning my feats i am trying to figure out whether or not i will be able to get a prestige class. (for example, i am considering taking the Force power regeneration feat, but some prestige classes get this for free i believe). So, what is the prestige class requirements? Is it a matter of having a high enough LS or DS (because then i wont get them), or is it story choices that determine it?
