  1. I only have a level 5 fireball.. But I think it's very useful. For starters, it's unblockable! This means I can go as far away from my enemies as the viewing distance allows and then pepper them with little balls of fire while they're running towards me. Nothing has survived that treatment so far, not even a thunder lizard! I also got my first seal last night so now I can use my runes. Lovely.

So is Magic Bullet, it's shorter casting/cooling time makes it better... really the only combat spell you need.

Bump. Finished the game, but did most of Chapter 4 in God mode because I knew there wasn't much to look forward to except for endless combat. Verdict is that ending is indeed poor, and the game isn't worth playing past the end of Chapter 2... but that's still good 15-20 hours of solid entertainment. After an entire game based on 'thoughtful action RPG combat', the Zelda-like puzzle battle for the final boss was stupid as well. if only PB had the resources to keep it up.

With no RPG to play I might try to start again with the bandit path and see how far I keep my interest...

    Agreed.

Overall the game itself wasn't bad, but it was very short, like ~20h short. Still, VAST improvement over G3.

  2. would a 7800GS be a good upgrade from a 6800GT? how much a performance increase is it?

I oplay games like half life2, NOLF2, Hitman:Blood Money, Far Cry, GTA SA. I would like tok play FEAR and Oblivion better.

    Specs

    3.4 Northwood

    1Gig 400mhz DDR Ram

    6800GT AGP

Roughly 10%... except with OpenGL games where 7800GS is slower, Here's a LINK.

Unless you can get the 7800GS at very low price, I wouldn't buy it... as Leadtek's 7600GT out-performs them both-> Here

  3. Are you piping the same image, or spanning multiple monitors? The former is no extra GPU strain (vertex shaidng, bump mapping, etc), the latter is (bigger image to process).

There's always some slow down involved as the card runs both RAMDACs[Random Access Memory, Digital to Analog Converter], it's an Memory Bandwidth issue... but it's minimal unless you use extend/span instead of Clone Mode.

There have been reports of OpenGL based games slowing down or not working when using Clone Mode, but that is driver issue and not Hardware related one.

  4. Since I'm a bit lazy I figured I should try and ask people here before I go deep diving into graphical review pages. It's quite simple really.

The issue: A few weeks ago my graphics card went and died on me. I have no idea why, but fortunately it was covered by the warranty (or it was actually 5 days after the warranty had elapsed but the store I bought it from let me return it anyways). Today I've finally gotten an e-mail to let me know it's been processed and I will be given a replacement card.

The thing is, I'm not getting the same card. I used to have a Nvidia 6600GT with 256GB memory and now I am getting an ATI1600XT with the same amount of memory.

So my question is simply if I am getting an equal, worse or better card. Or rather, is it worth making a fuss about it?

(If it's roughly the same I won't, because I'm happy enough to get a new card in the first place, although I am not a huge fan of ATI).

If any one wants specific details, I used to have this card:

    http://www.gainward.net/products/product.php?products_id=36

    and am getting this:

    http://www.connect3d.com/products/pcie_x1600xt.htm

Now, the most important lesson to learn here is to never buy a Gainnward card ever again. Not only did it break down within a year, but the one I originally got was flawed on delivery. Let's just say they haven't exactly impressed me with thier quality products (and yes, I know you get what you pay for and all that).

The ATI X1600 XT is slightly better card, unless you count for video quality which is the second major weakness of ATI hardware... First being Driver Issues.

    About the Cards in General

You probably came up even, But to be fair I'd never buy ATI myself.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Thnx to both

Both require a key. I have found a key, but that one works on neither 2. The note with the key also mentioned a valueable ring... making the reason why I wanted the chests opened (to reply to Tigranes "there is nothing in it")...

    *EDITED*

Does magic also allows you to open chests where keys are needed? That seems odd, as it is a nice way to screw storyline-locked doors or whatever...

Anyway, thanks again...seems like we are all stomped there...

The reward is only useful if you're at really low level... and need cash. :o

  6. Could somebody tell me why I become a LESSER vampire when feeding myself on some juicy blood?

    ***Edited***

In Oblivion vampirism causes you to gain certain Advantages which are balanced through disadvantages [sunlight, garlic difficulty to interact with NPCs]....

that said, the longer you wait between feeding more beastlike you become, this increases your bonuses AND weakneses.

After feeding your "Curse" weakens and you can walk in daylight for short time... if you want to become more vampiric dont feed on people [yeah, it sucks... no pun intended]

there are 4 stages of Vampirism in the game.

  7. So once you reach master in your primary skills, your level is capped right?

Also, stealing is still easy. I'm level 13 and 52 sneak, managed to rob half the shops in Imperial City blind, but I still can't get good weapons, and am forced to skip dungeons with the stupid will-o-wisps until I can find somewhere to spend my 3000 gold on. :/

I expect you cap when you can no longer spend 10 points in primary skills. So in theory you get more levels with low starting skills rather than high ones. Although I havnt found much use for leveling. I did come across one quest with a minimum level of 8.

No, You can spend time in jail to lower your skills.

There's no actual level cap in Oblivion [or Morrowind for that matter], how ever you stop gaining levels after you've maxed out your stats->

So, if you choose a sign that doesn't give you stat bonus at the begining, you have total of 330 stat points [320 + 5x2 from class] which leaves 470 increases. As you gain increases to 3 stats per level it's possible to achieve level of 158 [as 470/3=157, and you start at level 1] but you must build your character very carefully[Munchkinism at it's worst] in order to achieve this.

I stopped leveling at 14 , my skills keep going up but I just avoid beds. I bet there will be one of those mandatory beds along the way though.

    That's Metagaming...

    so sad. <_<

  8. He also has a very real chance of leading the league in goals scored as a rookie, a feat not done since Teemu did it if I remember correctly.

Teemu didn't lead the league, he was tied with Mogilny. ;)

Besides they should both retire from pro hockey.

  9. Well the last quest I did today was one for the mages guild. Find an invisible mage. Although I found him (detect life very handy) I still had to go through the quest path before anyone would acknowledge it. :(

And I thought using detect life was a rather clever way to find an invisible mage too.

What I was getting at is that the quest wouldnt allow you to finish it that way. You still had to follow the prescribed quest path in order to complete it.

    Yes it does...

you just have to cast dispel on the mage to make him visible... :(

    EDIT: fixed the Quotes ;)

  10. -Wear proper uniforms and get papers in order.  I had serious trouble with this.  I wish you could leave squad members at home, because I never had enough uniforms.  Maybe you can find a fix for this.

You can, Just choose the character you want to leave behind as "Active" and Click the bed in your Base [2nd floor in First town or in the Forresters hut], voila the character leaves your team... until you talk to him/her again.

    @Topic

I played through the game as Scout and Medic following 2 different paths [by killing Konrad] the game is Very short... took me under 10 hours to complete at first time, about 7 hours the second time.

    73/100 [i don't like WWII... If I would i'd give it 8 more points]

IF you're a fan of Silent Storm... Buy This

IF you like Turn Based Strategy Games... Buy This

IF you Hate WWII setting... Avoid This

IF you're looking for an actual RPG... Avoid This.

Regardless... Buy Space Rangers 2 It's longer, better and Sci-Fi.

  11. Instead of sabotaging the movie thread lets talk books here. What are you reading now, what do you like to read, etc.

Books that have hero vampires are works written by Anne Rice, before she fell from grace, and others who are not as well known like her. Books by Hamilton and Nancy Kilpatrik have vampire "heros".

That would be at the time of "Interview with a Vampire" right ?

And It's Nancy Kilpatrick, I've only read "Child of the Night", it was OK, haven't had a chance checkout the rest of "Power of Blood" series.

I'm currrently reading "Fundamentals of Thermodynamics" by Richard E. Sontagg, Claus Borngakke and Gordon J. Van wylen.

  12. Sounds good.  I'm all right with the concept of a "tighter" story.

I loved exploring in Morrowind, but without a steady stream of storyline, exploring can become quiet pointless.

There's a difference between not having a storyline, and the storyline been force-fed to you... In Morrowind much like Daggerfall if you didn't pay attention you'd miss parts of the story arc. I liked Morrowind, loved Daggerfall, yes even though it was bug-ridden nightmare at times, but who wouldn't like to have more and/or deeper/more involving story ?

  13. I need help in Bloodlines!

    Im stuck.

Im doing one of the final quest and cannot get to the next room, im in the room with the bit indoor waterfall where the Kuei Jin stay, well i can't open the doubledoors with the 2X4 blocking it, it simply wont open for me, i have no more bad guys behind me, i don't see a puzzle in sight, whats up?

When i get near a door an icon shows up indicating me to push open the door but i press forward into the door nothing, I press the action button and nothing, i hit it with fists, weapons nothing, any tips?

    1. Walk to the door

    2. Turn 90 Deg to your right

    3. walk against the "bar/Handle" to remove the latch

    4. Open the door

    5. Go forth and kill every SOB in the temple.
