Thankfully, I was able to solve this problem. Uninstall, then reinstall. Now working again.

Attempting to leave spider room from Cilant Lis and game hangs at a blank screen. Click icon to exit, Loading Screen appears, then black screen with cursor, then black screen with blue spinning icon. Any further clicking brings up the MS Windows Program stopped responding error box. Also, quick save was non-functional in Cilant Lis, but worked fine in camp area to start the game. Or, you could do what inXile has done with W2: ship the current unpatched disc (I think it was steam activated) out with everything else, and then ship out a final patched DRM-free disc at a much later date. As an amazing coincidence I received a message today from inXile finalizing those very details for my physical copy of W2. As a physical tier backer I really like having that option with W2, and would prefer it with Pillars.
