Does anyone know for sure when the embargo is lifted? I think I remember the PoE 1 embargo being lifted at least 2 hours before the game was released on Steam.

I would assume it is lifted now, but bear in mind it is only 10am on the east coast of the US.  Many of the people who do reviews for major outlets may not even be at work yet.

Most websites with articles requires those articles to be written and locked a day before their date of posting so editors can go through them and the posting is done automatically via a scheduler. No need for anyone to be at the office...unless someone didn't enter the right time on the scheduler.

Source: I wrote articles for a small webmagazine a few years back.

Yeah, you usually see 10-20 reviews pop up in 15 minutes as soon as the embargo is dropped. It's pretty clear that they are all finished at least a few hours before. If the embargo was up now, we would see more than these 2-3 reviews out.

  2. I'd love it if one of the stretch goals was a promise that one of the cities in the game would be of a scale equal to Baldurs Gate/Athkatla/Sigil. That is one of the things I miss most from the old Infinity engine games. Recent RPGs have all had such tiny towns or cities where you could only visit one of two districts (DA:O). It has been a long time since I played an RPG with an area that actually felt urban. In the late middle age / early renaissance setting they have chosen, it would actually feel really weird if there were no larger cities.

  3. I would prefer if they release the game in spring 2014. If they aren't able to spend all their resources by then, they could release extra content or extra features in the form of expansions or patches that would be free for anyone who helped kickstart the game. I don't really care if multiplayer or mod support is there at release. It would be nice to have it in the game at some point but I don't want it to delay the release.

  4. I'm a bit concerned about the mentioning of roles, something I found incredibly annoying in MMOs, Dragon Age and D&D 4th edition.

I think he just meant that different classes have some inherent strengths and weaknesses, fit different roles better in combat. Not the MMO version of roles where you would need one tank, one healer and one dpser and probably some CC. Every set of classes should be playable as a party but need to be played differently, taking their strengths and weaknesses into account.

  5. If you are somehow having problems with using Reddit, I'd be glad to help out or answer any questions. What is it that you don't understand about the format? What is bad about the user interface?

It feels very user friendly and straight forward to me, but then again I have been using the site for a long time. I don't remember what it felt like first time I visited the site.

I'll be perfectly honest here: I have some fairly big prejudices on the website based on the community. Obviously, there are a lot of people there who are fine, but I kind of feel like it creates the same kind of unsafe environment that places like 4chan "enforce". Is there any way you can sell it to me? I honestly don't want to contribute to a website like that, but it might just be I'm wrong on Reddit.

Reddit is divided into different subreddits, which are like a self-contained miniforum of their own. A user can create a new subreddit whenever they want and people with similar interests can gather there. The larger default subreddits are usually of lower quality and I can agree that they are in a way like 4chan. But the mood, maturity and environment is varies a lot between different subreddits. You just have to find your own mix of subreddits that fit you and only subscribe to those. /r/projecteternity probably has a very similar demographic to this forum.

  6. A problem I have with previous games is where you only really need one companion to use each skill. If one of the first companions you run into will have a really high diplomacy score, there really is no reason for the PC to put any skillpoints on that skill. I'm not sure how to fix this. Maybe make it so that other modifiers might sometimes reduce that companions score, (meeting someone who is racist against his race, other alignment or similar) making the PCs score useful.

Perhaps some of these will be skills that only the player character can initiate - for instance it may be that a companion may be able to pick a lock but perhaps not negotiate for the group -

In other words it may be that traveling companions are not going to be able to just stand in for the player character using their skill set instead of his in every situation thus not allowing the player to arbitrarily choose any companion to more or less be the player character of the moment.

Obviously I have no clue whether or not this is what is intended but I suspect it's a possibility.

In any event I am very pleased to hear that non-combat skills are going to rank right up there with combat skills overall.

That's one way to solve it. The problem then is that those skills would more or less be useless for companions. It would be kind of strange if only the PC had the ability to be threatening or diplomatic. That's the way it was done in Mount and Blade. What happened was that the PC only focused on the skills that he was alone in being able to use while he let the companions only focus on the other skills.
