I was in the exact same situation as you and recently started playing again on a new run. The game is really solid now. They clearly did a lot of great things in the patches. The cross-class talents is something you should consider if you want a hybrid. It is not proper multi-classing, you'll have to wait until PoE2 for that, but still really cool!
I play an orlan wizard with high sneak. I picked Apprentice's Sneak Attack at level one, allowing me to pretty much play like a rogue. This talent allows me to open with a really powerful ranged attack (always get a sneak attack when attacking from stealth), and getting behind guys mid-combat to stab them with a one handed weapon is really solid damage as well. Being sneaky is also really useful for getting into a good position when casting certain spells like Ray of Fire and Rolling Flame. I play with a 3 character party right now, rocking Eder as a tank and a custom made barbarian for damage. Might swap the barbarian out with something else later, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

That looks ridiculously good

They said that the game's setting is comparable to late medieval/early renaissance era. Coin and currency should be a part of the world. In some undeveloped parts of the world bartering may be more natural however. I voted for both.

I hope there is variation. I'd prefer if some areas are bright and high fantasy esque, like LotR elf or hobbit villages. While other areas are dark and gritty, like PS:T and NwN:HotU.

I voted: "Just a regular guy. Right place at the right time."
I like the Half-Life approach. Gordon Freeman was the right guy at the right (or actually wrong) place and time. He isn't really special, he kicks ass because the player kicks ass.. no super powers that are explicit to him. He gets a lot of help from friends and equipment.

And yet, this thread needs more Justin Sweet!
Although this art is reallly good, it's not really a portrait, no? This type of art would be great for narrated events, or even as cutscene replacements, but not for a portrait. BG and NwN1's portraits are more focused on the character's face, which makes it much more personal I think.

In principle yeah, but in a party of six it'd just be micromanagement and god awful hassle. So no.
I agree with this guy.
Unless they implement it in some new, awesome, innovative way: No

Agree with OP! Maybe it's not necessary to be able to ask unnamed NPCs about useless information, but I think some NPCs should be talking encyclopedias to some extent.
The guy in the smoldering man bar in PS:T who tells you about all the other planes and stuff is a perfect example of this.

I'd rather have them focus on important stuff. I wouldn't want their beards to come in the way of developing and stuff.. :>

Dude you sell the poll alternatives so bad... no one wants a "thin and wiry" UI. Call it "simple and minimalistic" and I'm sure it would be closer to 50/50. The NwN1 UI doesn't look very pretty, but there is nothing wrong with the style. I wouldn't mind seeing this style implemented in a good way. I'm a web designer/developer so I think UI is really important, but this poll's options doesn't do the discussion justice.

Loved the warlock from NwN2, he wasn't very strong (I think) but I loved the concept.

Avoiding combat does not lead to less experience gain. You shouldn't go up levels any slower by using your non-combat skills rather than your combat skills. We plan to reward you for your accomplishments, not for your body count.
This is great to hear. Awesome!

The bodies are drawn very detailed, but I found the "high res" BG2 portraits more to my liking.
They had more color and liveliness as the above example. (I just saw an Imoen Avatar above I think)
The pictures here look beautiful - yes - but a bit lifeless and more suited for nameless characters.
But that is just my opinion.
Agree 100% with this guy. BG and NwN portraits were much more personal, and had a lot detail. I think a portrait should be from the shoulders and up to get maximum detail around the face area.

As long as the prologue isn't too defining.. I don't want the entire back story of my character to be written before I start the game.

I'd like to see a non-expected and weird companion. A companion that when you first meet him makes you think "What is this, another enemy?". Then somehow you find a way to ally.
I also like companions that are significally different from the player character in some way. They have traits and skills that are unique for them, and impossible for the player to otherwise get. Maybe the companion has two heads, so it has an extra item slot for helmets and can wear 2 at a time. It's a bit like what they went for in NwN expansions and Deekin.. You didn't really expect you could team up with Deekin when you first saw him. And he developed dragon-like abilities that helped develope his back story as well as his combat skills.

I just hope they don't show us too much of the world right off the bat. I hope they make you feel like a small and somewhat weak group in a huge, dangerous world.

Randomized stats != fun.
I spent hours creating characters in NwN. It had the perfect amount of customization options available.
-
I'd really like to see a NwN:HotU style mega-dungeon, with lots of variety and where stuff just gets weirder the further down you travel.

Stupidest part about BG was rerolling until you got a perfect stat roll. It was just silly. Voted regular point-buy.

No more giant rats please!

Yeah I think mental conditions and insanity could be part of the game. But there should be ways to protect the character from these kind of things.
What if character attributes (Willpower? Wisdom? Charisma?) helped define your mental strength, and by having more of these attributes your character would be less suspicable to mental conditions.. Could be a cool way to add some variation to the races as well, some may be naturally strong-willed, while others would easily become insane.

What a silly question!
The answer shall be:
Yarrrrrr!!
Returning to PoE and need help on deciding on a class/build

I should say that I don't really min/max this playthrough. I'm going for a smaller party size (only using 2 companions so far), and play on normal.
I'm Hearth Orlan. Stats/Spells – I don't really know, I pick the things that look cool. :D
Edit: I think Sneak Attack applies to auto-attacks only. Although there are certain Wizard spells that summon weapons and "balls" you throw, maybe these gets the bonus?
