  1. Personally I am just becoming increasingly confused.  Why did you buy white march, then install it, if you had no intention of playing through that content?  Assuming perhaps you thought you would enjoy it, then just found out you did not... ok.  Then why did you not just uninstall that content after realizing you didn't like it, which would prevent it from effecting your end state?

You're thinking about this too much. How am I supposed to know that not completing a sidequest means your main character dies? It's the first time I've ever seen that kind of thing in an RPG.

  2. Hey Guys,

Just finished my second playthrough of Pillars, but i didn't complete White March Part 2. I just didn't have the stamina, and was ready to finish the game. Unfortunately, the result of this is a throwaway slide at the end of the game that says the Watcher died because of some random army that chased after him.

Now i really don't feel like going back and finishing that expansion just to get rid of that slide. Does anyone know if i can still import my character even with this endgame slide? I really want to import my character.

    Thanks.

  3. I have found a working savegame fix the will load savegames and create new working non corrupt savegames

This has been tested and working on 3 different machines with 5 different save files myself and have had 2 other friends fix their savegames with this method.

First delete the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment

Then delete the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment

If you have any saves in C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Pillars of Eternity

Copy them to C:\Users\username\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity

Run the game as admin and load the most recent save

Move your char and save a new save.

Without exiting the game reload that new save.

Save again in the same save.

    Exit the game.

That should work and create new files in LocalLow and Local\Temp

Though its probably unnecessary before i exit i save then i load my save and resave the same save everytime before i exit the game now.  I have my 60+ hour save now to 85 hours without an issue on multiple machines.

Please dont ask questions or expect me to explain this again if it works great if it doesnt or you cant figure it out good luck.

Didn't do anything. Still got no racial passive, and Eder is still over stat-ed.

  4. I'm with you man. Planescape far out shined the others, with BG2 coming in second (Far behind, however). Unlike most here, i don't have the hamper of nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses to colour my view, as i just played the IE games this year.

The story is absolutely masterful. Never have i experienced such fantastic character growth in an RPG. Due to Planescape not allowing you to start off as some random joe-blow, certain character aspects can be referenced within the story with much more reactivity. The companions are fantastic, far, far better written than those i encountered in BG2. The combat is equally as crap as BG imo, so i'm thankful that Obsidian will be creating a brand new combat system.

Everything about the game, other than the combat, is really terrific. A very pleasant surprise indeed, especially after being somewhat underwhelmed by the BG games.

  5. the fight itself wasnt "fun" or "chalenging" it was just "plow him fast enough before everyone in you're part gets killed" type of fight.

That is every single fight with a spell caster in BG2. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. I didn't find the fight with Zathrien at all like how you've described it. But you hit the nail on the head for the vast majority of BG2 fights.

  6. I've never had a console, but I don't see the advantage of having a console over a PC (with the exception of someone not used to computer tech) :

    - you can have a PC for the same price (more or less, just avoid the top of the tech)

    - you can connect the PC to a TV set, put controllers and play on your sofa.

    - you can mod games with a PC

    - you can also use your PC as a computer

But I'm open to different opinions, since I don't have a console, I can't judge.

    - the PC for that price runs games on minimal settings, and even that badly

Pc on minimal settings is how a console runs games. If you bought a PC back when this gen consoles launched, they'd still be able to play games with console quality today. The whole "PCs gotta be upgraded every 6 months" thing is an enormous ****ing fallacy.

  7. It seemed that you disliked it when game's imposed plot elements upon you and your character. I was merely saying that if you don't want any restrictions that a well told story would inherently have, you should play TES; where absolutely everything is an enormous bout of headcanon-ing. Only those games provide you with the "freedom" it seemed you were looking for. But if you do not have a problem with a game's story imposing certain elements to your character or the game world, and you simply disliked the fact that your character in DAO was a Warden for some unusual reason, then i misinterpreted your post.

  8.

I actually didn't like being forced to be a Bhaalspawn either. So yeah no real difference. In both games I dealt with aspects that I considered sub-optimal and enjoyed the game for what it was rather for what I hoped it to be.

Perhaps you should play the Elder Scrolls games? The IE games never were, and PE will not be a sandbox in which you can implant all your head canon. You will be forced to do things, and things will happen that are out of your control. That is the nature of telling a story, as opposed to making you LARP ala Skyrim.

  9. I just want to give a suggestion, so you don't all sound so ridiculously elitist, and actually present your dislikes and likes in a moderately mature fashion.

DAO's cooldown system is not inherently worse than the Vancian system, and is not some kind of oversimplification of the Vancian system. It is a COMLETELY different system. How anyone can think resting to memorize spells is some kind of insanely complex and intricate procedure is beyond me anyhow. Anyway, DAO favoured a gameplay style that saw each fight as it's own separate tactical battle, as opposed to the IE games which favoured battles of attrition (Which, with the rest spamming rampant in BG, ended up being much more like DAO's system anyhow). Two different combat systems, each with their pros and cons. Neither is inherently better than the other.

As to what PE can learn from DAO, i'd have to say the Rogue and Warrior combat abilities. So much better to have a warrior with crowd control abilities, as opposed to relying on your mage for absolutely everything.

  10. I don't care for "resting" at all, but the BG series method was a preferred one for me. Resting (doing nothing) seems to be a pointless exercise which is why it is usually linked to some gameplay mechanic (memorizing spells, recovering from fatigue, etc). And there might be better ways to manage those.

I agree. Since PE isn't going with the Vancian system, i'm wondering just what purpose resting will actually serve.

  11. I definitely want the game to stay away from the Vancian system. It's just too tedious, and it makes the mage class feel like it's constantly in a state of attrition. I'd rather have each fight be it's own tactical challenge (Which is basically how it was in BG, as you just rested after each fight) than have a system that applies the majority of it's difficulty through rapidly eroding characters.

  12. You see a young girl, her stance emanating a desire to run. She looks at you with widened eyes, an expression you can only deduce fear being the culprit for; "...what do you want?"

If character with low perception would get only "You see a young girl", and with high - all of the above, and if that information is important (or somehow useful) in dialog, not solely descriptive - that would be great.

That's a really interesting proposition. I'd love to see something like that.
