also if we have speaking items they should taunt too! (floating text)

another thing: today, if i physically buy a game i buy it for its box art and it being a "box"! (not a cheapo plastic DVD case) otherwise i can just buy an online copy. i am now looking at my diablo iii collector's edition box and...damn, i can eat caviar out of it.

If some don't like Vanacian and many don't like cooldowns, what then?
Here's an idea:
Fatigue
* EDIT: in case you havn't figured it out yet, red is health, green is morale *
Lets say your mage starts the day with 100 fatigue (or 1000.. higher numbers might be better for balancing and nuances)
He and the party go traveling. They've been on the road for 2 hours and the mages maximum fatigue has gone down, so now he's at 90/90.
Max fatigue goes down as the day goes by and as you do physicly demanding things (long journesy, running, etc..). Even if you don't cast any spells, you will need sleep.
So your group runs into some orcs. Battle starts. You launch a pretty powerfull spell that costs 15 fatigue. Roughly 10% of that costs is drawn from MAX fatigue. Your max fatigue has now dropped down to 88. However, your regular fatigue will regenerate by roughly 1 point per second. In 15 seconds the mage will be at 88/88. He can cast antoher spell immediately or wait.
Had he/she cast a less pwoerfull spell, the max fatigue would have been reduced only by 1 point. Either way, as time passes and the battles go on, the MAX fatigue drops. At 25% the character (any character, fighter or mage) becomes tired. It's harder to focus, but not by much. At 0% the characte is dead tired. He cna still continue to fight and move, but the penalties become severe. Miscasting becomesalmost a certanty.
The only way to recover MAX fatigue is by resting.
Yes resting.
Resting should be a part of any true RPG. It gives inns and villages a clear purpose. It is a safe haven to gather information, prepare, stock up, rest and heal.
I'd propose even healing to be very difficult. A natural and slow process. Healign spells don't heal fully - they give back only a small amount of HP (and a character cannot be healed over 50% wihout rest), but increase natural regeneration. - Note it would still take hours for critical wounds to heal. Without healing magic it might take days.
This even more gives a feelign of a real adventure and resource managment. Pulling back and regrouping becomes not onnly a valid tactic, but sometimes necessary (realistic, no?).
Also, leaving a wounded companion in the inn to recouperate while you take another companion with you for a while becomes an enticing prospect.
Personally, I'd rather have a few powerfull spells that I can't cast all of the time, and having to resort to a crossbow/staff/sword often enough, thanto have easily spammable low-level spells. That just sucks.
More like Gandalf, less like Hawke.
i'm sold

I don't want realistic stuff. I play a game to dream. I'm bored of serious business in later games. I'm good with fantasy design as far as it's not "too much" (I'm fine with "boobplates" à la PA report Cadegund concept, for exemple). Players and games forgot to dream these days.
Work under restrictions from licensing and publisher:
Create your own fantasy world from scratch without any licensing restrictions or publisher intereference:
Dull looking fighter type:
Feminism-approved female fighter:
>> People complaining that they ain't realistic enough.
-wholeheartedly agreed. too much realism is not good for health and crpg
-also i fear that we might get some generic D&D characters despite not being licensed D&D

i leave this to obsidian (a.k.a don't care)
-
i also think the 1+1 games idea might be good sales pitch somehow but might fail at the end.

they should have announced it later (after project: eternity is finished). i mean they will get little pledges from PE backers (if none at all).
PE did this right. they waited after wasteland 2 kickstarter to finish. they are also way too vague about their game(s).

put the both "school of thoughts" in the game. realistic armour and boob armour. win-win
also, no boob armour?! that's plain blasphemy!

my $0,02:
is this even a question? of course big ass cardboard boxes. $65 tier already seems appropriate (plus $15 shipping fee for us unfortunate souls overseas). no need for a stretch goal. wasteland 2 had a $50 tier for a large cardboard box and it got a lot of love from the backers (incl. me ).

just use combat taunts like in fallout/wasteland. they're much better than "finishing moves". way way cheaper. too!
-
Oh yes, yes!
Just try and keep it in-universe.
of course. i mean they can't use the word blood sausage™ even if they wanted to
how 'bout this taunt:
Quog'ralin was hit for a massive 35 pts of damage. Your karach blade slices off the abishai's arm clean. Maybe you should pick it up and bludgeon some sense into that thick baatezu's cranium.sh*t like this...and change the planescape cant with the eternity's.

goodbye "large boxed" game hope
-
why not translate it yourselves? (crowdsourcing)
-
too much realism in a crpg can make it tedious.
-
"the bruise will look nice, and maybe the scars will make nice party talk."
"drug dealer was critically hit in the right leg for 25 hit points, smashing the knee into the next town."
"metzger was critically hit in the head for 27 hit points. the attack crushes the temple. good night, gracie."
"slaver was critically hit in the right leg for 22 hit points, knocking him to the ground like a bowling pin in a league game."
"mole rat was critically hit in the head for 24 hit points, squashing the rodent's skull like a wet paper bag."
don't we all like 'em?
oh, also from wasteland :
"COVENANT brutally pummels the Wasteland Warrior for 33 points of damage, exploding him like a blood sausage."- 2

no need to complicate the game. this is not a "tycoon" game. so, NO to all points. i came from slaughtering a dungeon and am full of loot and i want to sell it to the nearest vendor i could find. but, wtf? he only barters?! i go to another one and he pays me in a different currency? puh-lease

NO to asian market "courtship"s.
1. I don't need a translation, I play my games in English all the time even if (or because!) there's a translation, which more often than not ruins the immersion for me.
2. I think Germany is a very large market for CPRGs, we love them and we create them too (Gothic, The Black Eye etc.)
2. Give me the PayPal option already, I'm one of those many thousands silly Krauts who can't pledge as long as it's Creditcard-only.
don't your lastschrift/bankeinzug cards have visa and mastercard capability as well?
(in denmark there are direct-debit cards (not credit card!) but 99% of them come with mastercard/visa capability)

obsidian should branch out...or altogether move to europe
-
they could have used games.stackexchange (if allowed). reddit is a mess.
-
You could force attack your characters if they follow IE route.
yes, this is the only pvp you will get.
-
githzerai, baatezu & tanarri subspecies would be nice
-
i am not sure about that. what inXile does right now is just keeping the fixed amount ($20) preorders via paypal. This is what inxile is doing for wasteland 2 you can increase your pledge by going in on your account. They will then use paypal also.
i would be confused if obsidian decided not to do this.
