  1. sounds cool, you could have the game consist of a short story mode/portal-style tutorial, which then has a continue after the credits, which leads to an endless free roaming survival mode that builds on what you learnt in the main game.
  2. While I agree with the first part, I think the "style" of RPG should also take into account which "style" of RPG is cheaper and less time consuming to make. Obsidian is use to big budget(tens of $MM) games, something kickstarter can't achieve (maybe a couple of $MM), so great care must be taken to ensure they don't run over budget. Trying to do this, while not negatively affecting the story would be difficult, some solutions; No Voice overs, base on pre-existing engine, use a retro style, make the game short but with room for replayability and expansion.
  3. Agreed, why bother falling back on the planescape setting? Obsidian could do just as well (or much much better) with an original setting while not risking scaring off people who haven't played or didn't like PST. Forcing unnecessary limits on yourself (such as old IP) would only stifle innovation and creativity.

Exactly my point. Also true, but this is generally done by making humanoid, not only tolkienesque races, but also the dreadful furries. I think Obsidian has the creativity to make humanoids that aren't furries or tolkien ripoffs. Yeah I agree, all the retro stuff and keeping the game short would be nice as it'd allow more time and money to be spent developing the story and characters, anything that can be done that allows more time to be spent on the story the better or improves the story, should be done, such as: Making the game short and dense, no need to waste time adding fluff to lengthen it. 2D isometric turn-based game, simple mechanistically = less time on non-story. procedural generation = big intricate world with minimal time spent on world building. I think the point of Isometric RPG (along with no VO) is it'll be cheaper, Kickstarter isn't going to give them that much money, so obsidian is going to have make some cost cutting choice some where and if that give the game some Nostalgia all the better, but just because a game sounds traditional doesn't mean that it has to be mechanically, there'd still be plenty of wiggle room for innovation and risk taking.
  10. I very much agree with you on that point, switching to Alpha funding once they've got that initial kick start, would probably be a big help towards giving the game a bigger budget, plus it'd help involve the community all the more.

  12. The main character should start off fairly plain average and indistinct, fundamentally replaceable. The story and attachment you have to a character should be the one you forge through role playing and choices you make. It'd be nice to be able to play a kind fellow, who dies straight away leaving friends to morn and save the world themselves and play an aggressive egotist who walks all over his subordinates leaving them spiteful as he takes over the world, all in the same game by mere merit of an ambiguous beginning and dynamic story.

Main character shouldn't be a white straight male(or an analogue of such), how about a game in setting where those word have little meaning, have a society with a colourful bisexual androgynous populace, why not have the majority of the population be non-human, some sort of original humanoid (and not an ethnic stereotype in fantasy/sci-fi guise).
  14. It'd be nice to see a good fear system, where enemies flee if your to strong or their to injured, and NPCs hide and shops close when you pass through town, being able to avoid fights using raw physical intimidation.
