  1. Hold your pitchforks! 2D rules!

In all seriousness, at times I'm reminded of wandering in Oblivion. Justin Bell was credited as the composer yes? His tracks remind me of Jeremy Soule's style. When I was strolling through Defiance Bay, I felt like I was walking through Imperial City. Rushing through Magran's Fork and Black Meadow are also reminiscent of wilderness treks in Oblivion/Skyrim.

Still turn based tactical combat won't work in a Fallout-esque context. VATS to cast Fan of Flames and Blizzard? Chokepoints in an open world? Even the dungeons of Skyrim don't have much tight corridors if memory serves.... But solo stealth would work. And at least dps magics have the right numbers in PoE.

Ah one can dream. Ok, rant over. The 2D defense force can get to work now.

"So? Go back and play Skyrim!"

"This is for IE fans, if you want 3D go play DAO or Witcher 2!"

"Meh, I'll gladly take polished pre-rendered backgrounds over buggy 3D crap anyday!"

    ....

I'd hate it. "Realism" (and this becomes virtually impossible in FPP) ruins RPGs, which rely on a certain level on abstraction in order to deliver wealth of options, actions, descriptions, avoid immersion-breaking, etc.

  2. Just - wow. I can't believe the score Kevin van Ord gives PoE. 8/10, when he gave Dragon Age : Inquisition 9/10. AND Divinity Original Sin?!! Is he for real?

PoE is not perfect, but 8/10?

Something is definitely up here. Did the devs p*ss Van Ord off??

How can he say D:OS is a 'glimpse of the future' but PoE is treading the fine line between clone and homage? I lost interest in D:OS pretty quickly, the world is just too fairytale and garish, and everything is covered in either slime, fire or ice!!

I'm shocked by this review. Genuinely shocked.

     Scores are worthless anyway.

  3.

I'll never understand the obsession with killing children in RPGs.

*shrug* Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Some people just want to be the bad guy.  I once played fallout as an evil, self-driven person bent on only their personal desire to get what they want and then killed people when their usefulness was at an end.

And let us not forget the thieving brats in The Den.

  4. I'm totally okay with this, but I'll add...

...my two bits: a) I doubt I'll be able to support Eternity more than I already did (damn you cost of life!) and more importantly b) I wouldn't want significant release delays because of this (being totally selfish here).

So to be clear, I have no problem if you have to delay the release to do more polish/finish off whatever, but to delay it for extra stretch goals doesn't sound cool to me. In short, you are free to fund extra stretch goals if you are confident it won't cause delays and/or if you release them later as small expansions or whathaveyou.

Also, I generally prefer smaller games that provide a tight, very intelligently designed story+gameplay than huge, expansive games that offer a disjointed, less cohesive experience. Yes, yes, RPGs (and Eternity) are closer to this second category, I'm just tryin' to say that adding content for the sake of adding content doesn't necessarily make a game "better".

  5. I voted for the ones I specifically like more, the rest I'm somewhat indifferent except for one I dislike: "Icons marking the tone and skill implemented when picking dialogue options".

I don't want to know which skills/attributes are affecting my dialogue! I want it to be exactly like FO/PS:T(and Arcanum/BG if I remember correctly). I am not opposed to having an option to toggle this on/off in gameplay options.

  6. Lying should be up to the player (like in New Vegas). Having two options ("Of course!" and "Of course! (lie)") made sense in Dungeons&Dragons settings where you had the chaos-law gimmick.

Speech checks to see wether the NPC believes you should be on things you say *after* the fact. So If I'm saying "Yes, of course I will do as you ask!", no speech checks should be present, even if I won't do it. If I'm saying "Oh, of course I did as you asked!" when in fact I didn't, a skill- or attribute- or whatever-check should determine wether the NPC buys my lies.

  7. I dislike this whole New Game+ thingamajingy, most of the time it unlocks things that should have been there from the begining. I want the entire game to be there in my first playthrough, otherwise I'll feel cheated (an easter egg or something like that unlocked, like, in the third playthrough I have no problem with).

Now regarding what you are saying I was kinda thinking that it's what we'll get! This is a game I'm hoping where your choices will open/close paths/quests/characters/whatever and thus you won't ever be able to do it all in a single playthrough and be a jack of all trades like in modern "RPGs".

Having said that, I hope we have an option to import our character so that if I want to replay the game with the same class I can just import my levelled up char from a previous playthrough.

  8. i heartily agree on good looking combat. Having the charecters actually hitting and parrying would look real nice, and while all those animations would require some effort, it's doable, unlike with the sprite based IE games of yore.

Of course this ain't no priority of mine, but good and varied animations can work wonders on the general feel, coolness and prettiness!

  9. hmmm, I like the dialogues being a way of developing my character and reputation, and the short and long term consequences... but I want my dialogue options to be determined by attributes/skills and their success based on relevant skill-checks! I know we'll be having dumb dialogue (I recall correctly right?) so maybe I'm worrying without real reasons.
