  1. Among most of the mantid species and many more, in the compound eyes of our tiny skittering friends is a little black dot that you might not see unless you get really close. Its a pupil! That always seems to follow you, it makes you think you have its undivided attention! But alas it is a ruse! It is the pseudo pupil, doing its job in making you think it knows you are there. It is an optical illusion caused by light reflecting off the eye cells, only mostly absorbed on the cells closest to you causing a black dot! You can even see it in mantis shrimp! Its really niche but when I encountered the mantis (after not noticing it) i immediately checked if it had a pseudo pupil because that would just be awesome and give a few players a bit of a fright! (On the other side of learning something amazing!) but i couldnt see the elusive dot chase me. It would be awesome and it seems really small, if it could be added. I love my bugs too much to see their beautiful evolution be squandered in interpretation (and maybe glossing over the detail) Still scared of if you add ant mimicking spiders.
