I'm guessing there must have been an update to the game that busted it because I am only now having this happen. The game is actually un-playable as it stands and the FPS drops happen at any given point in the game. Not just combat. I would love to finish this game but as it stands I'm going to have to take a break and pray that an update rectifies the issue. Win 10 64 bit Geforce 1080ti 16gb RAM Intel i7 6700k

This issue was resolved by Validating my file integrity in Steam. I guess it didn't download/install properly?

After character creation I reached the point where I fight the pirates at the beginning and then do the “Choose your own adventure” text portion immediately afterward. After the text portion ends the game crashes. When loading my save it loads to just before the fight with the pirates and then crashes after the choose your own adventure portion all over again.
