It's generally shown on the locked item itself. You'll see a panel of info:
Mechanics 3 1 lockpick
Mechanics 2 2 lockpicks
Mechanics 1 3 lockpicks
or something like that - it appears to take into account the highest mechanics in the group.
When I get into somewhere that my rogue can't unlock things with some lockpicks added, I go back to Caed Nua and do a level or so....
