1) Have anyone tried KotOR 1 & 2 using a GeForce 7800GS (AGP8X)? 2) Have anyone had trouble using any other GeForce 7 card and a SINGLE core CPU? I have searched the forums, but until now I have only found posts from users who have GeForce7 on PCI-E & Dual core CPU! I know that theoretically they must be compatible and this GPU is much more powerfull than that required by the game, but as a System Administrator I have already seen things (both hardware and software) that theoretically should be compatible, but in reality they manifested more or less incompatibilities when working together!

The videos are 640x480 ONLY if your monitor don't support the resolution of 1600x1200 or higher, because the Bink videos can't be scaled neither to a smaller or a higher resolution in the game. To scale the videos to a different resolution from the original, you must use a special program, and this program use very much CPU-resources in the process of rescaling the videos! And, if I remember correctly, KotOR2 don't resize the videos, instead plays them at their hard-coded resolution (640x480 for the original ones, 1600x1200 for the new versions)! If you have a 17 inches or bigger monitor who support at least the 1600x1200 resolution, your monitor will automatically switch to the 1600x1200 resolution (like it has switched automatically until now at 640x480) before playing any videos, and will play the videos at that resolution, but it may be possible that you must use the 1600x1200 resolution also in the game so that KotoR2 play the new videos (I have only played both KotORs at 1600x1200)!

If Obsidian will make KotOR3, you will purchase it
Luke77 replied to Luke77's topic in Computer and Console
My original intention was to ask also in the title, not only in the poll, if you will purchase it, but the "?" character was cut off from my title, probably because it was too long in that form, and I can't shorten the title, so I can't put the "?" to the end of my title. I newer wanted to state that anyone will buy it, i was only curious to see the oppinions of the other KotOR players. I am verry sorry if any of you have misunderstanded my title! -
On november 14 pc.ign.com published a preview of Neverwinter Nights 2, made by Obsidian. In the final part of this preview they say the following (http://pc.ign.com/articles/666/666403p3.html): But while Obsidian is hard at work on Neverwinter Nights 2 they are working on other projects as well. Urquhart told us they were hoping to have 110-115 people by the end of next year in two and a half teams to work on three projects at a time. He also said they want to do a Knights of the Old Republic 3 should LucasArts desire it in the future. I'd be surprised if they didn't. In any case, we can expect some big things out of this development house down the line. If it will be KotOR3 in the future, and that will be made by Obsidian, you will purchase it? P.S.: For the Moderators of the General Discussion - KotOR2 forum: I am sorry that I have posted this initially in the wrong forum, so please delete that post, if it is possible!

KOTOR 2 hang then returned to desktop
Luke77 replied to Greatstar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That could be the problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It says "Warning" instead of "Passed" ONLY because the 1.6GHz CPU is meeting only the minimum requirements of KotOR2 (CPU frequency >= 1.4GHz) , not also the recommended ones (CPU frequency >= 1.8GHz, if I remember correctly)! But if you don't have other problems with your CPU (like random crashes in other programs or in Windows), your CPU is OK, it is not overheating, so it should run the game normally. I play KotOR2 with a new PC, but I have played KotOR1, which has the exactly same requirements for CPU like KotOR2, with AMD AthlonXP 1600+ CPU and it had runned fine. Your problems can have multiple causes, so you must post your full system specs (the swinfo.txt file) so I can try to help you! -
Update your sound card drivers to the latest available version (or wait until the apparition of a new driver version), maybe that will help resolv your problems, because it seems that these are generated by your sound card / sound card drivers.

You need either WinRAR or WinACE to open the downloaded RAR-archive and to extract its content to the folder you specify in these programs. After the extraction you will find 2 new folders in that folder: Override and Source. To install the fix, copy (or move) all the files included in the Override folder to your KotOR2's Override folder.

Media Patch: Mini-Review -- Kudos to Obsidian!

It is all OK, you don't have lost any of your savegames! When You are at the Load-Screen you must see some arrows, near your character's portrait (if I remember correctly, now I am in the process of reinstalling my system, so I don't have KotOR2 installed in this momment). If you use these arrows you can cycle between your different characters you have created who you have saved at least once (or it has been saved by the game's AutoSave function). Find your other character, and you will see all your saves for that!

What driver version you use with your video-card? It seems that the last good version for my GeForce FX5900XT card (and all FX series card, and probably the older cards also) is nVidia's ForceWare version 66.93 for XP! The newest drivers than that version are causing trouble (including slowdowns) in many 3D games, not only in KotOR 1&2! And I have heard many people with cards older that the GeForce6 series getting to the same conclusion in different forums on Internet, so my video-card it's not guilty for these symptoms! I have problems in the past in both KotOR games with all nVidia GeForce drivers that I have tested, starting with the version 67.03, so I am using again the 66.93 and both KotOR's are running much smoothly than with the newest drivers! I mention that I run both KotOR's with all graphics settings enabled and at max level: 1600x1200@75Hz, 8xAA & 8xAF, FrameBuffer Effects & Soft Shadows both enabled. My PC's configuration: - CPU: AMD Athlon XP Barton 3200+ 2.2GHz FSB 400 - MB: Asus A7N8X with nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset (with nVidia's 5.10 version nForce driver) - RAM: 2*256 MB DDR 400MHz Corsair in DualChannel 2-3-2-6 latency - Video-Card: MSI's GeForce FX5900XT with 128 MB DDR (390MHz GPU & 700MHz DDR, initially with nVidia's latest GeForce driver all times, finally with the 66.93 version) - Sound-Card: Creative Audigy2ZS - OS: Windows XP Service Pack 1

Can You explaine me please while he must uninstall the 1.0b patch? I have heard that this patch not only corrects some bugs, but also introduce new ones, but the game don't run better with the patch than without it? I have played the game only without the patch, because after the patch had appeared, I have read about the high definition media patch and the TSL Project, and now I am waiting to finalize the TSLP so that I can play KotOR2 how its creators originally wanted to be!

ATI cards with Shared Video Memory
Luke77 replied to mars_army's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hi to all of the previous posters here! I am also a new poster, so if I make any mistake please warn me! And... the english is not my native language, so please take that in mind when you read my post! I don't know if this will help you, Mars, or anyone of the previous posters, because: 1) I only have PC, I don't have the occasion to try KotOR 1 & 2 on laptop 2) I only runned KotOR 1 on a system with shared video memory a couple of days in the summer of 2004 to see if it is working also that way 3) I have used an nVidia integrated video card with the following (2nd) system configuration: CPU: AMD Athlon XP Palomino 1600+ 1.4GHz FSB 266 MB: MSI K7N420 Pro with the following nVidia nForce chipset: 420D NorthBridge & MCP-D SouthBridge (with the latest nVidia's 4.xx nForce driver available in that moment) RAM: 256 MB DDR 266 MHz KingMax (224 MB System Memory & 32 MB Shared Video Memory) Video-Card: Integrated GeForce 2 MX in the nForce's NorthBridge using the 32 MB Shared Memory (with nVidia's 56.64 GeForce driver) OS: Windows Millenium (without any Microsoft update) I have played KotOR 1 with the 1.02 Update, because the latest 1.03 Update is apparently introducing a memory leak, because many people on the Bioware's KotOR forum are complaining about this, and myself also I have experienced this in my 1st system! My 1st system is identical to my 2nd system with the following changes: 2*256 MB DDR 266 MHz KingMax CL 2.0 in DualChannel configuration, MSI's GeForce FX5900XT video-card with 128 MB DDR (390MHz GPU & 700MHz DDR, with nVidia's 56.64 GeForce driver). In this 1-st system with the 1.03 Update I have experienced periodically slowdowns (the only solution was to restart completely the program), meanwhile with the 1.02 Update KotOR 1 has runned perfectly with all settings at max at 1600x1200@75Hz (8xAA, 8xAF, Soft Shadows & FrameBuffer Effects both enabled)! So when I tried KotOR with the 2nd system (with the shared video memory), I have also used the 1.02 Update of the game. If I remember correctly I have runned KotOR 1 that time at 1024x768 (or at 800x600) without AA, but with 2xAF (the max AF level supported by GeForce2MX), with Soft Shadows disabled (if the video-card cannot done this hardware with the 2.0 version shaders, it is emulated by the system CPU and so it use many CPU resources), but with FrameBuffer Effects enabled, and it has runned verry well approximately 1 week (the entire duration of my test). In this time I have done the Endar Spire multiple times (I have tryed all 3 class there) and I have done Taris Upper City & Lower City completelly without the serum-sidequest (because I don't go to Undercity) and without the final duel (connected with the bounty-hunter sidequest, i don't remember the name momentarily), and I have not experienced any problem! The only problem I have initially was when I tryed to use Soft Shadows, the game has slowdowned to 1 - 2 fps after a couple of seconds from the start-time! But KotOR 2 i have only runned on my 3rd system (Athlon XP Barton 3200+ 2.2GHz FSB 400, Asus A7N8X MB with nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, 2*256 MB DDR 400 MHz in DualChannel 2-3-2-6 latency Corsair memory, and using that FX5900XT card, XP SP1) and on that it is running satisfactory (both the unupdated and the updated version) with the nVidia's 66.93 GeForce driver (it seems that the newest driver versions are having problems with the FX and the older series nVidia cards).
