  1. I hate this idea people have that jokes perpetuate a culture of a certain kind of behaviour or attitude - jokes don't perpetuate anything. I've had a look into whether there's any academic literature and journal articles to substantiate things like sexist jokes or rape jokes or anything like that promote those behaviours because I've had this argument many times before - and you know what, there's zero evidence they do. Prejudices and illegal behaviours arise from the cultures people grow up in and and their own personality, not because they heard a joke and it made them do it.

Saying that a risqué limerick perpetuates transgender hate is beyond stupid. Vocal morons preaching that certain jokes are going to make the world turn into a sea of prejudice and inhumanity are complete idiots - they have no backing to their argument on any kind of level (go onto any kind of academic literature database like Web of Knowledge and have a search, I dare you) and the more people pander to them the more people believe these stupid notions have any kind of basis.

That is why Obsidian shouldn't have altered the verse - they shouldn't have even approached the guy in the first place suggesting he should change it.

Jokes do, but only if they are uttered with malevolence. The one in-game was more of a dirty limerick, hilarious but not malevolent in scope.

The author is OK with it, and in this particular case we should be too. The principle is still wrong, however.

  2. In light of Firedorn's post and that he was given the option of changing and he did so to prevent further **** storm, I have a lot of respect for him as a person for immediately saying "yes" but also to Obsidian for not making this mandatory.

    So, thanks I guess.

That is correct and I will speak of it no further. But, I still don't like GG or other entities similar to it.

  3. That's actually why I was asking and a little confused - they're obviously WAVs, but for some reason they don't want to render/play in my usual playback software, so I was wondering if there was anything particularly funny/ancient about their formatting.

I'll see if Near Infinity helps, though, thank you!

they are converted with the ACM compression...

on a sidenote, new patch is bringing new voicesets instances, I guess that will up the vs counts?

  4. Aw you're too kind :) thanks!

I don't know others, but I switched to Unity 5 and now i can't use the asset editor, any workaround? except the obvious 2 ones (wait for engine update / get unity 4)

Is it mandatory for OGG files to be at the same 32khz rate or they can be higher?

EDIT: just to specify, they made the files at OGG q10. virtually no difference with the original ^^

  5. The system that's in there is as simple as it gets, so I'm sure it can be expanded.  Guess it depends what you have in mind?

Well, Torment and BG had music files with some sort of loop points, to begin with. Does eternity use the same system? or the loop is simply end-to-beginning, if there is any loop at all?

Secondly, I mean more control over the playlists and locational\specific music (like, the battle with the watcher and\or assigning personalised music to particular areas - this is already done, but I can't understand how). more similar to Japanese RPG, I suppose :p it's a quirk of mine!

  6.

I understand both sides of the argument. I really do. I get that some people want encumbrance and I understand why. I also get that some people don't want encumbrance, and I understand why that is, too. My bafflement wasn't about that. I was confused by the double-standard (on either side of the argument) of saying "Don't use it, if it bothers you that much!" but in the very next breath being aghast at the same suggestion from someone else.

Pro-encumbrance: "If you don't want to travel back to town five times to sell everything because your inventory is less than infinite, just don't pick up everything, if it bothers you that much!"

Anti-encumbrance: "If you don't want to be able to carry five sets of plate armor because your inventory is infinite, just don't pick up everything, if it bothers you that much!

Both groups have a choice about what they do in the game. No one is forcing them to contribute to the aspects of gameplay that annoy them. I wasn't saying "ENCUMBRANCE 4 LYFE! Y'ALL HATERS CAN DIE!" nor was I saying "DOWN WITH THE TYRANNICAL ENCUMBRANCE-IMPOSING EMPIRE!" I was just seeing the same argument from both sides and not understanding how those that are shouting it are not heeding their own advice.

    That's an erronous perception.

In first case, you have to choose between two disadvantageous situations. Do I give up on time or do I give up on loot?

In second case there is no disadvantage, considering you're willingly agreeing to the limitation.

Only first one presents a practical inconvenience.

I doubt the devs will implement encumbrance in any form, that's too much hours of work for the potential benefits. Probably will be modded by someone in the future.

much more likely to happen if they upgrade the engine I think...
