I have noticed this bug as well, when you zoom out and then back to default you get a blurrier image. It can be fixed by hitting the default zoom key, which will not change the zoom level if you are already at default but will instantly restore the detail. Makes me think something is funky with the zoom system.

Agreed, hope this patch comes soon. I am having a really hard time telling if I've explored areas fully.
