  1. The whole story was overcooked to a point that it ended up being a rambling pointless mess - Kotor 1 had a far simpler story with one great twist that was a lot more powerful and absorbing in the telling. Kotor 2 tries to weave in too many twists between good and evil and frequently I was disatisfied with the options I was given both in dialogue and action. In the end I think it would have been very difficult to create a good ending. There were too many baddies - that guy on the beat up Star Destroyer was built up as a real nasty but then you kick his butt real easy before taking on Mr.Hellraiser and the old Biddy - didnt make any sense. 2 baddies is quite enough thanks. And Keira kills 3 Jedi Masters but I took her out very quickly with my lightsaber and a battle stim. And quite frankly I knew Keira was trouble from the start and if the game had let me I would have killed her straight away. If Lucas Arts told Obsidian they had a 12 month deadline then Obsidian should have kept it short and simple. Keep the crew to a maximum of say ... 6 or 7 dont bother adding loads more kit or force powers - that just slowed the game down as you found yourself wading through list of upgrades and trying to remember who had what. Since they were reusing the engine they could then focus on making large worlds with plenty of ppl in them to interact with - most of the worlds in Kotor2 felt empty in comparison to Kotor1.
  2. whatdyaknow ? Ive finished Goto's yacht and exactly the same thing happens. I get the movie sequence of the Ebon Hawk flying off and the yacht being destroyed by fighters then blank screen and music but nowt happens- I wait and wait then CAD so see if Kotor2 is still running but its 'Not Responding'. Reboot and Reload and same thing happens.
  3. The brightness/gamma in this gamma is bugged and lots of ppl have problems with it. In my case the screen is quite dark so I have to adjust the brightness slider (ingame not in WIndows Display Properites is what I mean). I move the slider and put it back exactly where it was and hey presto - screen is brightened to the right level. When I exit the game my desktop is usually too bright so I have to fiddle with Display Properties. Its not your machine or drivers - this is one buggy game. Just adjust the brightness slider til it looks right for you. Dont be surprised if you have to do it every time you start the game.
  4. Do you mean PCI or the new version called PCI express ? PCI cards are slower than AGP but although the new socket design of PCI Express is faster than AGP but it doesnt automatically mean a PCI-E card is faster than a AGP card. If you need advice on getting a new graphics card then you need to post details of your CPU, Motherboard, RAM and what you are prepared to spend.
  5. Not that this helps - but I went in there early on with armour with biorestorative underlay and some other health stuff in solo mode and didnt die. I got poisoned but my health bar didnt drop one jot. Just ran around and emptied all the chemical containers without being attacked and left. Go figure !!
  6. this is from the release notes for the 5.3 catalysts .... Known Issues for CATALYST
  7. Hi - I was getting occasional lockups using the 4.11 and 4.12 drivers (yep - ATI 9700 til I tried the 4.2 atioglxx.dll trick and for a while I been playing stable and smooth which makes this doubly puzzling. I finished most of Nar-Shaddaa and Im off to rescue my main character from Goto - the movie sequence of the Ebon Hawk taking off and flying into space plays then .... blank screen with sounds playing in the background. I CAD to exit the game and I can see my desktop but no taskbar and systray etc .. I have to reset my PC. Ive retried this 6 times - I disabled movies in the swkotor.ini file which does bugger all btw - movies still play - and Im getting nowhere. This is the buggiest game Ive ever played - Warrior Kings was bad but nothing compared to this.
  8. Ive been playing for quite a while with the 4.11s and 4.12s and whilst performance is mostly okay it does struggle quite badly at times. The 4.11s had problems getting Frame Buffer Effects to work properly but the 4.12s were fine for that. The Disable Vertex Buffers trick did nothing for me. Also with both the 4.11s and 4.12s Kotor2 will CTD every hour or so at random. Then I saw the game running on my brothers PC - his system is a Xp2400 like mine but his 9700pro has packed up and he's using my old Geforce 4ti 4200 64mb and it was playing this game smooth as silk compared to my 9700. Crap I thought (literally) and did some searching and came across the 4.2 opengl driver tweak and tried it - just putting the standard 4.2 atioglxx.dll into my SWkotor2 folder and it makes a helluva differance and after 2 hours playing - no crashes yet. I think the best thing Obsidian can do is provide downloads for several versions of the atioglxx.dll file that ppl can download and stick in the swkotor2 folder. The 4.2 4.11 and 5.2 should cover it. All my other OpenGL games play fine and stable - Call of Duty, Doom 3, Chronicles of Riddick and Half-Life 1 based mods like Day of Defeat. I know ATI's OpenGL driver isnt great but the level of problems ppl are getting is down to the engine this game uses and the fact that its mainly coded for Xbox and nvidia graphics chips.
  9. KryptAngel - Ive had stuff like that too. In the fight with the exchange boss on Telos (the squid head) theres a cutscene where he sends his droids out to fight and the door closes behind them. The second time I played it the droids didnt make it through the door before the doors shut so when the fights supposed to start Im on one side and he and his droids are on the other side of a locked door and everyone stands around looking silly. And thats a cutscene that didnt play right !! This is the buggiest game Ive played since Warrior Kings.
  10. Thanks for the replies all. Even though I was really fed up at that point I did try not to get carried away. I didnt realise I could get Atton behind the bar and they couldnt follow but I did try fighting first then running out the door but Atton died within one or two hits every time. I retried that section several times before giving up. Lets face it - running your character behind a table to find the enemy cant follow him isnt outsmarting the NPCs - its outsmarting the developers. Part of the problem is I'd invested all my kit and money into my main 3 or 4 (either one of those on their own would have kicked the twins into orbit) but Atton had a wimpy pistol and armour and nowt else so I really had no chance. Ive already abandoned that game and restarted. I dont want to harp on it cause focusing on the deficencies of a game just stops you getting any fun out of it but it still strikes me that it was a crap thing to do. It made absolutely no sense for a character who'd been so little involved with my main character to abandon the safety of the Ebon Hawk- run after me to tell me to be careful then run off to pub on his own where he's cornered by 2 bounty hunters. Anyway - on with the game.
  11. Beware - this is one of those 'need to vent steam' posts and contains spoilers. Ive been playing this game for a week now - been putting up with the occasional CTD and saving regularly because of it. The first game was brilliant and pretty stable for me even with a Radeon - this game is as stable as an inmate in Coney Hill. But thats not whats bugging me - I've hit a gamestopping er .. bug ? Not sure what you'd call it. I've been playing mostly with Keira and the guy who calls me General then the girl with the veil shows up and I've played with her and Keira for a while. Ive not bothered with the pilot guy for quite some time apart from the occasional chat so Ive not taken him out of Ebon Hawk and upgraded him. Then I get the call on Na Shaddaa to go to the Jekktar (or whatever its called) and so I go off on my own. Then the pilot guy turns up to tell me to be careful and gives me some medpacs and goes off to a cantina to wait. Mira shows up and we chat and she says something about my party being in danger then it switches to the cantina and the pilot is facing up to the Twins and promptly dies because he has weak armour and weapons. So basically the game decides to throw one of my party in a situation he cant possibly survive. Im faced with reloading a really old save game and replaying agin through several hours Ive just played through or throwing away a
  12. Thanks for the replies - I didnt think of going to the party screen mainly because there was no sign of my companions in the room when I reappeared as the main chatracter. Nor is there any prompt from the game - do you want to add people to your party ? Remember the first room in Kotor 1? So now I either have to play on and try to rebuild my lost inventory or go back to previous game save which I have a feeling is several hours back. Great !! Even knowing theres a workaround I would call this a very big oversight on the part of the developers.
  13. Ive sent off my email to complain as this game IS a joke. Im not a hi-fi buff but I can tell the sound is crap. I mentioned this to my brother who is a hi-fi buff and he tells me that CD quality sound is 16 bit 48khz and just click on any of the music wav files and select properties - you can see they are 8 bit mono 22khz. Ive also had the bug mentioned by Swaave where all my NPCs disappear leaving me to fight several very difficult battles with just my main character. Im about ready to ditch this game altogether.
  14. Just had a horrendous time on Telos and wanted to know if I've found a major bug or not. Ive been playing as a lightside fighter and Ive been helping the Ithorians and fighting against the Czerka. I got a quest from the Ithorian leader to hack the Czerka mainframe so off I go as the droid and get the info they need. When I get back to the Ithorians I revert to my main character but theres no sign of my 2 companions. Im told I can go to the surface in a shuttle so off I go thinking its strange that my 2 buddies are missing but maybe its a solo mission like the droid one. At the shuttle bay I get the message the Ithorians are being attacked so I leg it back and have to fight a hord of mercs and war droids on my lonesome. This takes ages to do and I use up every medpac Ive got - I have to back out and go to the medbay up the concourse and turn half my inventory into chemicals to make more medpacs. By the time I've finished saving the Ithorians Im barely alive, have no medpacs and very little inventory. I head off for the shuttle and low and behold when I get to the surface my 2 buddies have mysteriously appeared. Im thinking that my 2 companions disappearing is just a bug and they should have been there to help fight the mercs and droids particularly since the severity of the fight was way over the top compared to anything before it. Can anyone clarify this for me?
  15. As the title suggests - when I exit Kotor 2 regardless of whether Ive altered the ingame gamma or not the desktop looks bleached out . I can go to Display Properties and the Colour panel and then it automatically flips back to the correct brightness without me actually altering any settings. Its a weird and very annoying bug. My system: Xp2400 768mb 9700 non pro SBLive Windows XP Pro + SP2 DirectX 9.0c 4.11 catalysts I did use the 4.12s which had the same problem but I went back to the 4.11s because of posts about them being the best drivers for Kotor. Performance is fine - I play at 1024x768 high details but no soft shadows and 2x AA and 4xAF enabled. No AA and AF makes no differance. Im not using a 3rd party program like Powerstrip or Rage3d tweak - this is the game and the best official drivers together doing somethin' screwy - can anyone help?
