Either his 1d4 of Fire damage is erroneously being applied as combat damage, or the “recharge this card to reduce combat damage dealt to you by 4” is not correctly limiting its scope to combat damage.
Edit: I went ahead and took advantage of the fact that I had the option to recharge rather than bury. Immediately after I clicked the button, the henchman shuffled back into the deck without allowing me to beat him to death with my sword.
Edit 2: I’ve had a couple more encounters where I’ve taken non-combat damage against the Magic Plate and in none of these situations did I have the option to recharge for DR. Process of elimination tells me that it’s probably Kalib’s second round of BYA that’s bugged.
