Greetings, playing through Legendary "Attack on Sandpoint", with a party of Ezren, Valeros, and Lem, Lem was at The Rusty Dragon when Ezren (at the Swallowtail Festival) revealed a Skeleton Horde.  Lem failed to defeat the Skeleton (the powers active were -5 blessings and +3 difficulty to defeat Banes), and took three damage.  Discarding the Medallion only reduced the damage by 1 (as if it were a regular discard), rather than by 3.
