Shop tutorial at start of game is very poor

At the start of the game you're instructed to visit a shop and purchase anything you might need before looking for berries.  When first visiting the shop at the start of the game there is a tutorial message explaining how shops work. The tutorial however doesn't give a general idea of what you should get, it doesn't seem to sell stuff that you don't already have (Maybe some classes are missing some things?) and everything is more expensive than the amount of money you start with. These issues make the tutorial feel really, really terrible.
