Pillars of Eternity freezes at Kickstarter screen

I bought Pillars of Eternity via Steam. I downloaded the game, and when I click play the Obsidian logo appears and so on, then the game always freezes at the Kickstarter screen. If I click or press any button nothing happens. I also cannot exit the game and have to force a computer restart by pressing the power button of my notebook. The game files are up to date to the most recent patch. I also verified the local game cache. This happened every time I try to run the game. It always sticks at the Kickstarter screen. I already deleted the whole game and redownloaded it, the issue remains the same. I run the game on a 15" Retina Macbook Pro Early 2013.
