Pre-order code question

I recently purchased a pre-order code for Pillars of Eternity. After using the code I noticed that I didn't receive any of the pre-order items so I sent the company a ticket lodging my complaint. They responded by telling me it is because I used the key after launch.

 

I personally have never had this happen before, everytime I've made a pre-order purchase I've gotten the pre-order bonuses no matter the date I've used the code.

 

Is Pillars of Eternity different in this aspect?

    3. Adjust your preference.
