Running the manual GOG patch took some time, but seemed to be going well. Right at the end, however, I was told there was an error. The patch_log.txt file created said:
Error removing: C:\GOG Games\Piillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity.exe
Since the in-game version number had updated to 1.03, and I was getting things I seemed to remember from the patch notes (reduced Arbalest damage &c.), I decided this wasn't much of a problem and kept going. However, not wholly surprisingly, when it came to the 1.03 - 1.04 update today, it didn't recognise my version of the game as compatible with the patch, and so refused to apply it.
Rerunning the 1.03 patch continues to give the same error in the patch_log, as well as a few audio files unavailable for patching, which I assume were removed by the previous patch process.
