elminster_cs Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Dear Obsidian, some years ago i bought KOTOR2 and i just notice that is now avaible on steam.I try to use my cd key on steam, but it tell me that is not avaible.I also ask steam about this, and they told me that the old cd key can't be redeemed. Why? I have bought it, why we are not allowed to redeem them? Is near to impobbile play without patch, but with steam we can have it again, i would like to play it again. Thanks a lot.
alanschu Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 In order for a physical copy of a game to be accepted on Steam, that company would need to make special arrangements in order to do so. Steam is under no obligation to validate purchases made somewhere else (nor should they be, in my opinion). It'd be different if you were validating it directly with Lucasarts, but alas that is not the case.
FourLetters Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 As far as I know some codes has something like expiry date - maybe that's the problem?
Rosbjerg Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 No the problem is that Steam wants a cut of the money for for the game they are keeping on their servers and giving you support to. Here you want to use their service for free essentially, as you bought it somewhere else - which is why they refuse. If they allowed it, people would just buy games at cheaper venues and then redeem the games in Steam, which would mean 0 profits and thus no Steam. Fortune favors the bald.
