Checkpoint during the Protect Surkov Mission

Unless I missed something completely, why is the last checkpoint created in this mission the one right after u open up the gates? Then you have to thru the entire crew of G22 all over again and hopefully protect Surkov in one straight shot. This is the only boss mission where u have to go thru an entire fight just to get to the end.

 

I didn't go thru the front door, I went thru the roof door to the sniper rifle....am I missing a checkpoint spot or is this how the game is designed?

Wow, wut a random glitchy game.....after failing the mission 6 times, finally walked out of the roof door and a checkpoint was saved for me.....

 

Another thing, when I walked out the door, I planted an incendiary bomb near the entrance, yet G22 guys just ran up behind me on the roof.....did they spawn or come up the ladder? if they spawned, that's pretty lame....there's something rough around the edges with this game but I see why it has a bit of a following.....
