Black screen during cutscenes

I have installed AP on a Windows XP 32 bit PC (drivers up to date), and my problem is that I can't see the videos and cutscenes.

 

At startup, after Sega and Obsidian logos, I hear a gunshot and the screen goes blank. If I click my mouse or press some keys and wait a bit the menu screen will show up.

 

If I press credits I see the mouse pointer, which will not move, but after right click I am returned to the menu screen.

 

If I start a new game I won't see any videos but after a while I can see Thornton waking up on a hospital bed and I can play normally.

 

That is, everything else works except the cutscenes / videos. I tried installing ffdshow codecs but that didn't help. Any ideas?

 

edit: Oh and I'm using Radeon 4870 (but I guess that isn't the problem as the game itself works).
