xbox kotor 2 problem..workbench not working

ok i got kotor 2 from a friend and the workbenches didn't work.....so i stopped playing the game. i just bought it and im having the same problem....i remember playing this when it was new as a rental and never had this problem...any idea what it could be?

the fix is to totally delete the saved game file from the xbox memory b4 u enter the game....finally i have my work bench back.
