Kotor 2 storyline question

I know that kotor 2's storyline is broken but

in the dantooine enclave, master vrook tells the exile that he leeched the force from other force sensitive beings and his companions to become strong in the force. Then why don't his companions die? Also I didn't understand kreia's method of first making the exile strong in the force and then trying to kill him??
